I think the best advice that I can give someone that's just starting out with the 705 besides what has already been mentioned above is that at least in the beginning, look for nice repeatable signals. If you swipe across a target at you get one number and then you swipe across it again and get a number that's not very close to the first number, move on. You'll have plenty of time to go back and dig iffy signals. The important thing is to look for nice solid signals that don't bounce around too much. Just as important is to remember what target ID that you saw on the display and what you pulled up when you dug that ID. You'll start and get a feel for what not to dig.

Have fun!

Glad to here that MEV. I have an X-Terra 70, and you will be happy with the 705. The 5X10 is a good coil and will help you find coins in trashy areas.

Congrats on starting where most people should, many will spend a lot less on a their first detector and work their way up (self included). I started with an $80 detector back in 1972 and worked my way up. Oddly enough though, I found my best ring with that $80 detector.

You're in the right place, lots of good info and people here.

Congratulations!!

As a "new guy" myself(since March with the 70), this detector can do a lot. Beep-dig or customized discrimination.....up to you. There's a lot to learn(read, read, read, then read some more), but you'll like it.:detecting:

Always remember....location, location, location.

If you have the serrated bottle cap where you are, then you may become frustrated when you get good signals on them with the 10" x 5" DD coil. This happens with most DD coils on the detectors I use...only patience and learning how to ID the pesky things will save you from digging truckloads of them. Coming at the target from different directions and making repeated but consistent passes over the target will often throw up different numbers, just as mapper described. Good Luck...you have a good detector.
