I'm verry much liking my new 705. Last night I took it to the ( salt ) beach. I only have the stock coil ,until the 5x10 gets here, thanks to Richard at backwoods
With the stock coil the dry sand GB was 10-12. The wet was 34-36 which if I'm not mistaken is very low mineralization. Found lots of non-ferrous objects, and if the ID#
is 12 its a nickle. found some clad, dog tag, and one fake hoop earring. I'm just hoping that the 5x10 HF is lighter than the stock coil ,as I'm just now recovering from
4 hrs + of swinging. After a few mins of using coin and jewelry mode ,switched to AM where I left it the remainder of the time. Overall the best ID machine Ive ever used.
Very sensitive.

Congrats on the beach finds. And glad to hear you're enjoying your 705. Based on the information you provided, I think you will enjoy it even more when you get your DD coil. As to the GB settings...... the dry sand, at a ground phase setting of 10 - 12, is a very low setting. The ground phase setting in the wet sand of 34 - 36 is what I would consider moderate mineralization. Nothing is cast in stone, buy I wouldn't consider anything under a setting of 45 - 50 to be very low mineralization. And as we know, the lower the GB number the more compensation the X-TERRA has to achieve to neutralize the mineralization. As I've said in past posts, (again, not cast in stone, but based simply on my observations) if the ground phase setting (using the stock 9-inch concentric) is 28 or higher, the concentrics will do a good job. However, if your site requires adjusting the ground phase setting to a number less than 28, the DD coils will perform better. This is simply due to the design of DD coils. I'm sure you figured it out, but the best manner to hunt a beach is to work parallel to the water. In other words, hunt in dry sand and wet sand separately. Although the beach mode or tracking mode on the X-705 is fast, hunting the dry areas separately from the wet areas allows for a much more stable detector. JMHO HH Randy

It may be a tad bit lighter but not much. At least I can't realy tell tthe dif. Now if you want light try the 6" DD or 6" CC, featherweights they are.

Good hunt, congratulations on the new machine. Keep us posted on your new coil.

Very sensitive ,lightweight ,with good protective cover...Now to get some free time to try it out lol.

Re: Prospecting - Undocumented Ground Mineralization Feature on 705

Welcome to the forum. As you've figured out, the X-Terra has the ability to operate effectively in both conductive and/or magnetic ground. And as BarnacleBill described in that post you referenced, there is a procedure that will allow X-Terra users to "read" those properties in their soil. The question you asked is precisely what BB was referring to. A person should be able to increase the likelyhood of "finding gold" by hunting in areas with higher levels of iron (Fe3 O4) and black sand. Although this procedure won't find those areas for you, it will give you a numerical representation of the magnetic levels for the site you are testing. As such, you will be able to "increase your odds" by determining which areas are the "hottest", according to their magnetic properties. Hopefully someone will respond who lives in an area with conditions similar to yours. Unfortunately, I can't as I don't live near areas with those conditions. HH Randy

Ah, but its inverse on the X-terra, where the lower the number the more mineralized the soil (generally). There is a procedure on the MXT to determine the real ground mineralization, just as there is with the X-terra. The ground balancing number is not really a perfectly reliable way to measure it on any detector, or so I've read.

'Generally' being the key word

In my experience the GB numbers only indicate the type of mineralization... NOT the amount. Tom

I forgot to add since you are new to the 705, here is something else you may want to look into:

Lol I'm new to the 70/5 but studied it for 6 months....MLOTV,YOU TUBE,X-TERRA forum FAQ,Minlab.com,K-CO. you name it.
That's why I wanted one so bad ! I live in south Louisiana, no native gold ,but will still use the prospecting feature for other things.
As far as I know of there's no Mineralization in the soil around here unless its rust or clay. I appreciate all the helpful post/comments.
cant wait till I find my first real jewelry and convince my wife that this hobby of mine is worth the $$.....lol
