SO,HOW DO YOU POWER BALANCE:tesoro:

#1.. Make sure the manual GB control for All Metal mode is also tied in with the Discriminate mode GB adjustment. Some, like the Cort

Why "Power Balance," you might ask? Because if you adjust the GB with many Tesoro models in the All Metal mode, the result will be the opposite, leaving you with positive ,, OR VERY POSITIVE .. GB in the motion Discriminate mode. With some/many Tesoro model, an increased Disc. mode GB can cause a loss of dept on higher-conductive targets, even to the point of NOT responding positively to big silver dollars or even a half-dollar and sometimes even a quarter US coin. It will also cut in on performance in highly mineralized ground, such as black sand, pea gravel, etc., etc.

Remember this part. When you are TOO +, you can loose some silver targets and depth. If you don't care about the depth and silver part, then super tune away!

I stand corrected. The Tejon is different. It will put your tejon too -. When it is too negitive, you'll pick up more ground or hot rocks. It is off by 1/4 to 1/2 a turn.

Hi,, Are you saying that Tesoro drop the ball on their setup procedure??.... It seems that a properly tuned machine that's setup correctly should be equally set (balanced) with a ferrite rod in all metal and discriminate modes....At least that's the way I set my machines up...I believe you are trying to achieve a more positive response from the higher conductivity targets by lowering the ground balance a little...This technique is a crap shoot at best....Doing this has the potential for a lot of false signals mainly IRON....But in some areas this technique could prove to be beneficial if you can successfully get away with it..?..However it might have a very limited effect on certain machines.... This style of tuning seemed to work on my old Garrett years ago when I was in pursuit of them old deep dead slimy green Injuns.... I know that the ground balance on the Tesoro Vaquero & Tejon machines controls both discriminate and the all metal modes....What other Tesoro machines have this feature?? I know without a threshold this technique would be hard to do and is not recommended for the faint of heart (beginners)....Anyways this was an interesting topic....HH....JJ

Keep in mind, if you will, tat I am a very avid detectorist and have been at this great sport since I built my first 'metal/mineral locator' in March of '65. My time spent sitting in front of a computer could be better spent doing research to be ready for the coming hunting weather. My distractions, however, is trying to do what I can do, and contribute what I have learned, so that others might learn a little more about their metal detectors and maybe enjoy a little more success afield.

I was a Tesoro Dealer from '83 tru '04 and, right now, I am not. I sell White's as most readers know but my posts on this Tesoro Forum are not aimed at pushing something else, just learning the strengths and weaknesses of the detectors that you might be using. As a matter of fact, the main detectors I look for on a trade-in ,or to purchase if I run across a good deal, ARE mainly Tesoro models. Why? Because since '83, some of my favorite Tesoro's have accounted for a big chuck of the oldest coins I have found.
