So what kind of detector would you like Dave J to design next?

I was reading a forum owned by a Florida rocket scientist, and he gave Dave J a very positive plug......Has designed, helped designed, or has influenced 60-70% of detectors on the market today. In addition it that, Dave is very in tune and listens to the customers wants and needs! Ok Dave , first of all, thanks for all you have done for this great hobby!!
My current favorite detectors are the Minelabs, ( sorry!) , but I could also use another machine to complement my minelab and Atpro. The machine that has my interest is the xp line,
The lite weight, and fast responses in trash , wireless makes no difference to me, stable . I would really rather buy American, have a machine with better depth and ID than the deus, and maybe just a bit more affordable. Dave, are you up to the challenge?? Readers, what would you like to see in a new detector? This should be a fun thread.

I want one that I can just wave out the window of my truck as I drive past a schoolyard, and it will immediately deposit the amount of lost money there in my bank account.

Now mud, that would take all the fun out of detecting. I would rather throw the money in a coffee can.:rofl:HH jim tn

Emmm... I guess I'm still old school? I would like to see Dave J. design another "CZ" type detector along the lines of the Fisher F75 that will be both light weight and battery efficient.

Agree. A modern CZ style or multi-frequency detector that handles deep iron better would be a winner. I really like the control box style of the Teknetics Omega/Gold bug pro with the 2 control knobs and couple of buttons. No going in and out of menus. I'm sure whatever they're working on over at First Texas will be simple... yet state of the art. I just hope it costs closer to 1,000$ instead of 2,000$.

Regardless of what F T comes out with, and like most, I am also ready for something new and better then what I have, I think price is very, very important, followed then by ease of setting the detector up. I personally don't want to have to deal with dozens of mode combinations striving to get maximum results and never being sure I have actually obtained said results. And ultimately, I am not willing to pay the price for such features. But that is just me. Something that could hunt both shallow water (water proof to a few feet) and land, rapid target response for trash hunting, tid like the Omega, depth of the LTD and keeping it light weight is pretty much what I would like to see. But again, at an affordable price. HH jim tn

However I would like to see some new features added to the F5.

First = In the four tone audio mode I would like the ability to move the nickel tone around to where ever I want it. Currently it is 10 digits wide and start with a TID of 25. Keep the width of the tone range the same but allow me the ability to choose it's starting point TID number. That would be extremely useful to me as a gold jewelry hunter. I really, really want that feature.

Second = make the Threshold +9 audio boost with limiter feature that we enter into by turning the threshold hard into the dial stop a "click" into feature so that it is no accident or I have to repeatedly turn the dial to get into it. We have discussed this feature in the past and it is turning out to be very useful and has added a whole new dimension to the F5. In a nut shell, it allows you to use the weak target audio boost feature in a place where EMI normally would not let you use it. I can run my gain at 25 or 30 and get the same depth as if I was running it at 95 or 99. Let me "click" into that power on purpose, not repeatedly hunt for it hoping I hit it just right to enter into it.

Third =make a 4x15 DD or a 4x18 DD coil for the F5/Goldbug/Tek series.

Thanks in advance.
HH
Mike

To me the biggest hassle is changing coils in the field. I don't know if this is even possible, but I would like to see a all in one coil, lets say 10.5", 8" and 5". I would like a selector switch on the control box to fire up each coil. I know that we would be swinging the weight of the bigger coil all the time but you could switch on the fly without carrying extra coils or going back to the car. I would like to see this in the spider type design some type of color change for each coil size.

I would also like to see a detector that is at least rain proof. Just don't like add on covers and running to the truck for every rain drop.

Now that would be nice.

And it was a performance monster, it would probably sell like hotcakes. Look at the prices of the deus and the ctx, people are spending the money, hoping for better performance. It would be interesting if the FT marketing people turned DJ loose, no limits, and see what he comes up with.

i would like a multi freq machine built like the f70 so its light and well balanced and water proof like the at pro and keep the price low enough so poor people like me can afford it hh

yes
yes

I want the interface of my F5, 4 tones, dual freq. and depth of my CZ a little water proofing and at least a reduction of EMI issues that the F series suffers from. Keep it affordable.. I like Mike's idea of a adjustable window and/or a switch to kick nickels into a high tone like the 3D

I would like to see a top line general purpose detector with three freqs, 6.6, 14.7, 75 khz, so I can either chase tiny gold in veins when gold prospecting, or switch down to 14.7 khz to hunt gold jewelry. 6.6 for deep silver coins. I know this has been tried before, but performance is lacking on machines that are in production now with switchable freqs, no multi purpose detector can even come close to chasing the tiny gold in veins like a Gold bug 2 does, but it would sure be nice to have it all in one machine, one that really works well.

Just think how many would be sold if the price was reasonable !!! ............ :fisher:

I know Dave thinks that no long range locators work, so I would like to see him try and make one.
There is a real challenge.

Digital unit that has a true analog audio, that each tone can be adjusted.

Let's see, light in weight, goes deep, and is easy to use without a lot of tweaking and setup - wait I already have that detector - its called a T2 SE and Dave already designed it

MULTI FREQUENCY IS A MUST (FOR MY AREA)
LIGHTER THAN THE ETRAC, WHICH I USE
SOMETHING MORE EMI STABLE THAN THE LTD IS.
ADJUSTABLE TONE ID FOR VARIOUS TARGETS
AT LEAST AN 11" DD COIL
EITHER WATER PROOF OR RESISTANT
BETTER QUALITY, MORE VISIBLE SCREEN ESPECIALLY IN FULL SUN LIGHT
ALL THESE ARE GOOD REQUEST FOR A COMPANY THAT HAS MADE QUALITY MACHINES FOR 10+ YEARS.
BACK LIGHT A MUST
IF THEY BUILD IT I'LL GET ONE
FACT:
FISHER IS A GREAT COMPANY WHICH STAND BEHIND THEIR SALES

How about a P.I. machine that will outperform the minelab 5000? I know the American engineers are just as brilliant as Bruce Candy. Let's get cracking and really use our heads and build something new instead of a rehash of what is already on the market. Any company can make a few changes but you end up with basically the same or close to the same performance. Let's show the rest of the world that we have American inginuity and can build the best metal detector in the world . Look what minelab has done and I know you guys are just as smart as they are. Go ahead and scream at me, but deep down you know I am right as rain.
