...on your second hunt, with your new (to me) second hand Explorer XS? Albeit a tiny one, I'm thinking it will be a while before I top this...

Oddly enough the two short pieces of gold chain although different from one another were in the same hole with the coin pendant. They didn't sound on the coil though, only the coin did. I dug all around to see if I could find more pieces but I think a lawnmower must have hit them or something cause I couldn't find anymore. I have yet to find any silver in this hunted out park, but I'll keep digging tabs and caps thank you kindly! :pulltab::beers:

It was about 5 or 6" down and when i pulled it up, I thought it was some junk jewelry. It looked too yellow to be real. But there was no corrosion on it and when I looked closer I saw it had asian writing and 1984 on it. It also felt really heavy for the small size.:super: When I got home I washed it and googled "small gold coin panda" and found out what it was. I wish it were bigger but its the smallest one - 1/20th ounce. I'm gonna get it reset and put it on a necklace for my wife. That ought to be good for a new pinpointer don't you think?

Wow,
What are the odds of finding a gold coin period.

Nice Save
Jeff

Always felt the original XS was as good as any of the Explorer series and good luck in your ventures....

You have obviously gotten to know that machine in a short time...and I am happy for you.
The gold coin has eluded me for my 35 years of hunting...and will probably elude me for another 35:bouncy:
GREAT find

Nice find backlashd.:clapping: I'd say that your chances of finding a gold coin are a lot better than mine, but heck you already found yours. Nice going and HH.

Thanks guys. Really it was pure dumb luck, but I'm ok with that!:drinking::biggrin: With the explorer I've been digging most everything just to learn the language, and thats probably the only reason I found it. It hit a little lower than pulltabs, but was very solid and repeatable. I didn't take pictures of all the trash, bottle caps, tabs, wire, cans, and rusty nails but I had a bag full.

Maybe someone can help me out with something though. I had one target that gave a repeatable high silver tone like a quarter from all directions. I dug down about to my elbow and couldn't find it. Then the signal "moved" about 4 inches closer to me. OK, so I dig there. Same thing, it moves over to the side this time. I didn't want to uproot the whole park so I filled the hole, and now the signal disappeared! What gives?

Oh, and thanks to Dan-Pa for selling me a great detector. He's great to deal with if you are considering purchasing from him.
Thanks and HH,

WOW! Congratulations on that Gold Coin Backlashd! That is one sweet find you got! Most of us hunters can only dream of finding a Gold Coin and most will never find one. Better be very proud of that find since you may never find another during your detecting career. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

If you use a drop cloth for excess dirt, pull it a foot or more away from the hole and recheck. I had a target a while back that kept moving towards me. I kept inching back my drop cloth with the fill dirt and widened the hole 4 or 5 times chasing the signal towards me. Then it finally dawned on me to run my probe through the stuff in the drop cloth. Oh well, good exercise I guess. JJ

I called myself being thorough with the pinpointer looking for that "ghost silver", but I could have very well just missed it. I did find some very old crumbly deteriorated iron (or something), that could have given me the signal I guess. Anyway, I'm chomping at the bit to get out detectin again to maybe get some old silver to go with my little Panda!

Thanks and HH,

a pendant like my coin that you can turn IM to -16 to search for any bits of gold chain left nearby. I'm gonna go back this week and see if I can locate any leftovers. That seems like a really good tip, we'll see if theres any left!
