So when will we get another software update or upgrade?

The version we are all running on now is getting a bit long in the tooth. We had offered some good suggestions early on after the release date of the CTX with regards to things like more bins for combined, moving the clock somewhere where it won't get covered up by the target ID numbers, auto plus more than three.
I am not looking for an exact date but the last I heard was that no one had heard a thing. I would feel better if Minelab posted that they were working on some enhancements, or a teaser video.
I have also wondered if this idea of paying for an upgrade had muddied the waters so they were rethinking giving these things away for free, and until they had a pricing structure put together they would not release anything.

Yes, I know they added the salt water mode and the pin point lock and they fixed a couple problems that caused the machine to be unusable or unreliable. But when was the last upgrade/update now, in the fall or earlier?

I would personally like to see more bins added and Auto + more than three so that there won't be such a difference between manual. Anyway, I'm about to go out hunting now and maybe they'll work on this and have it done by the time I'm done. lol

One thing that I always wished I had on the CTX was the ability to discriminate out audio by indicated depth - that would be great in areas littered with shallow screw caps. Just being able to screen out that junk in my headphones.

Doc, I actually had that in my original post but reworded it before publishing it. It was something that was brought up at least a couple times in the past.

I tried to name a couple things that seemed quite easily programmed, maybe just to whet my/our whistles. No, I am not a programmer, but I have worked alongside them for years and I am employed inInformation Technology for many years.

First of all, isn't it great to own a machine that CAN be software upgraded without sending it back to it's point of origin?!?

Second, software upgrades are a vital part of high tech device life cycles. It is in the best interest of all involved to continue to software upgrade the CTX. It allows the company to improve future generations of the product, and to be completely candid - we are all free testers. They issue the new software, and we test it for free. Seems like a fair trade to me. Then they validate the results with user feedback and incorporate those "advancements" in future products. Product evolution. (others call it a development cycle)

Third, in the event we go more than a year without an upgrade, or the company announces there will be no more upgrades you can rest assured your product is about to become obsolete and replaced with a newer model. THAT is when the company loses interest in the old products - not when the check is written at the register. But there are always exceptions to every rule. Buy an off the wall Android tablet or cell phone and watch home long it takes for Joe Blow Company to upgrade it......your battery may need replacement before you see an upgrade, if you ever see one! Moral to the story is: be glad, be very glad you got a Minelab.

I have been critical of their customer service, but I don't think I will ever have an issue with their Research & Development department. Those folks clearly have their "stuff" together.

Agree PokerShark and would also add that it's only been 6 months since the last update. I don't think that's out of line. They never said they were going to do Any updates. So we're ahead of the game and I hope we get more updates too.

they may not have said they were going to put out updates but they definitely advertised the fact that it could before the CTX came out. that coupled with the fact that they were able to enable the pin point lock and the fixes for the crashing problems that we seen early on makes me wonder how come they haven't put out an update in 6 months now. I'm fairly certain they are working on it and it will probably be here before too long but it would be nice to have something solid to look forward to.

The Bounty Hunter Big Bud had that capability (depth blanker) back in the 1980's . . . . funny that when ideas come up that you hear "that will take some doing" from companies when in fact its been done years earlier . . . . might need to look at some of the features that the older units had and see what we can encourage companies to resurrect . . . . some of the older units had some nifty features
