Sweep speed importance....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-JMdKtaqIs

Wow, glad you made that post. I've been thinking just the opposite. I've been slowing down my sweep speed thinking I would get better depth.

I had to give another updated on sweep speed.
I visited the test garden again last night and on that deep rivet I could not adjust the machine by increasing discrimination and miss the target. I went to maximum discrimination and I could still hear the target. It appears, sweep speed is the critical component in acquiring the rivet. Slow down and it was gone.

It was stated the shoulder to shoulder fast sweep speed was critical for finding really deep targets. ?? I always did it and found many great finds at depth.

I've noticed in BP mode sweep speed is important too. I would've thought since BP is a slower process than DE then a slower sweep speed would be needed. But on coins buried a few inches down, a faster sweep in BP will give more consistent numbers as well as a better reading on the confidence meter. Anyone else notice this?

Looks like I'll revisit some so called "hunted out sites" and increase my sweep speed.
:fisher:

I know right where to go.

SWEEP SPEED The F75 is noted for its quick response. This gives it unsurpassed ability to locate and identify good targets surrounded by trash. It also permits the user to sweep the searchcoil quickly in order to cover more ground with very little risk of losing targets. In general, if you are searching an area where the desirable targets are more than 8 to 10 inches deep, a faster sweep speed will detect to a greater depth and yield more accurate target IDs.
CHECKING A TARGET In order to most accurately verify a detected target with most other metal detectors, users will narrow their sweep and loiter over the top of the target. The F75 is different. The F75's quick response and advanced signal sampling system produces the most accurate target IDs with deliberate (shoulder width) sweeps all the way across the target, even if there are other targets nearby. If you check targets using sweep techniques learned on some other detectors, you run the risk of getting less accurate target IDs. You can use the confidence level indicator to improve your technique.

The above is from Fisher ................in the manual on original F75. It may still be in the newer releases manual.. This does work if you utilize the suggested sweep.

Yeah, we always seem to hear slow for depth, but I don;t know why so many seem to never try varied speeds to see what difference it makes. I am guessing from comments, of course/ The manual for the Makro Racer states for best performance ID & depth, a full swing and good speed work best (vs slow and short).

I noticed when I check under the swings I get a solid hit as I pass under the chains but if I go really slow it softens and often disappears completely! HHMMMM?

Great post Mark!

Went through each of the processes, with the exception of the FA process, de, je, bc and pf will all detect the rivet with the faster sweep speed. Of course the BP process had no issues. I did notice one notable bit of information, seems like the transition from 0-50 sensitivity would require the faster sweep speed to detect the rivet. When the sensitivity was above 60 I could begin to slow the sweep speed down and still acquire the rivet. Amazing machine.

Good info and reminder. I also find with the sen. I run, usually 85 and up, I don't need quite as brisk of a swing to acquire depth. HH jim tn
