Needed. Want fast surface scan for coins and rings dropped by spectators.....

What would be a good one to use?

Jim,

Just remember in all that clad there is all that junk. You will need a fast detector with a wide range of discrimination, unless you are also digging the junk.

Basic 1, adjust tones for the coins range, bump up the reactivity to 3 and swing away.

If you are not concerned about tiny targets or deep ones, drop your sensitivity to around 80.
Your coins and rings and large chains 0-4 inches will still hit hard but you won't get a bunch of EMI chatter or small target signals 6+ inches.

Another thing you can do is set the ground balance a few points positive. That way the real weak/deep signals will be ignored to a certain extent.
Example, your detector says the ground reading is 86-87, set the ground balance to 90 if you wish.

I use 18khz and set a notch from 0-42. The reason for that is I have yet to find any gold rings that rang in lower than 47-48. The aluminum seals for juice bottles ring in at 40 and are annoying because they are everywhere and give a nice solid signal.
Your shallow junk will usually give a jumpy or multi-tone signal (if you use 3-5 tones). Shallow coins and rings will give a solid one tone signal with few exceptions like pocket spill or broken ring.
This is just a general rule of thumb for the type of hunting you will be doing. I do the same style of hunting in a very productive soccer field where I have access privilege.

The reason I am not extremely thorough and use these settings is the massive size of the park and limited time I have to hunt.
No need to look for deep targets as I don't want the temptation to dig deep holes even though I have found a few coins (natural to the area) dating to the early 20th century.

All excellent! Thank you......

Just a note. I use my Deus for hunting tot lots and while rings do come in with a higher ID, I've got quite a few good sized 14k gold earrings & pendents that come in at 27 to 30
