Hello everyone Rob here hope all is well. I have an opportunity to trade my Tesoro Cortes for a Minelab Explorer XS and was wondering if anyone knows the skinny on the XS. Is a confusing machine, ease of operation?, Is it one of minelabs obsolete machines that they will no longer service? And any other helpful advice. Would this be a good trade or not, so on and so on. any help greatly appreciated.

Okay I traded with the guy, got the XS plus two batteries, an 8 and 10 inch coils, covers, manuals, Andys book. Hopefully I did not make a big mistake and I can learn to use the minelab. thanks for all replies.

I make sure you reset the detector to the default program before you start using it. It has a lot of bells and whistles and each one seems to have a time and place but not all the time or every place. Be careful what settings you choose, they can change the performance for better or worse than the factory preset settings. The DD coils will confuse people who switch from concentric coils because the signal it emits into the ground is in a different shape, knowing that fact will help you adjust.

you will be glad you traded.be patient and learn.

The sound of silver is easy to learn. With the Explorer I hunt mostly by sound. With the Etrac I find myself looking at the numbers.

I traded a nice unit for my minelab explorer xs and never looked back, But 2011 i will have a explorer se and keep my xs for a back up unit
