Software update and custom programs question

Does anyone know why the software updates have to wipe out your custom programs? Seems to me it would be easy enough to save them on the PC and restore them as the last step of the update. Just wondering.
 
There’s obviously a reason in how the unit is programmed for updates. That would be one more thing to deal with on their side. Just write them down and put them back while you’re thinking about how lucky you are that you just got a free upgrade for your machine. The Minelab Ctx does exactly what you’re asking for and that’s great! Just don’t hold your breath waiting for the updates.
 
I thought that would be a big deal too but it wasn't. I have 4 custom programs and it only took minutes to replace them.
