Sold on 6" DD coil for coinshooting on my XT-70

I am primarily a relic hunter, but with a dearth of sites to hunt close by I decided to do more coinshooting this year. I have a 6" DD coil that I purchased for just that purpose and when I used it at an old, grown over drive-in theater today I was really impressed. We didn't find any coins, but I knew what I was digging just about every time and this site is loaded with trash. The only downside is that this site is huge and because its been abandoned for over 40 years there aren't any clues to where the screen or concession stand were, so its like using a hockey puck to paint a football field. We may be going back tomorrow as we didn't even get all the way across, only about half way.

Is your site on Google earth? I have had luck with some spots on GE but not all, the edge of the high resolution and low resolution falls near my hunting areas.

I too like the 6" DD but your description of painting the ground with a puck is very true. You might want to assess the site first with a wider coil and work a few lines across to see what you find. Even dig iron if it will give you a better sense of the site. (Beware that big iron like pipes that are buried vertical will show up as very shallow objects, don't bother to dig them up. Then again you might just find speaker posts (assuming they are iron) and if you want to only find them de-tune your sensitivity to say 10-15 and you will only find the posts and or big iron. (I have used that trick to find iron survey pins in trashy ground. Nails on the surface had no response but rebar showed well.)
