Some finds found this last weekend. Part:1.

Well, I'm finally getting time to post what I found this past weekend and I am sure a lot of you have been waiting and wondering on how I did. Well!, I've done better but hey!, I can't complain.

Tim and I once again hooked up in the search for some Old Coins on Saturday. I knew of a spot that was on the way to where we were going and we almost completely passed it up until Tim told me that once we got to the original destination, that we would most likely stay there the entire day and pound it to see what we could get. So, we stopped at an Old Ball Diamond that Tim knew nothing about but I did. I knew that Barber was there since I stopped with Dale once before and Dale found a Barber Quarter along with some Indian Heads and the other usual Old Coins. As we pulled up behind this Elevator, where the Old Ball Diamond once was, we found out that a building was about to go in part of the area. There was dirt scraped down about 6" and piled up and some spread out on one side of the Ball Diamond. We got out and started working it. Tim shortly found his first Keeper of the day, and one he owes me. He pops out a 1903 Barber Quarter at 2" (this now being his 9th of the year), which would have been about 8" Deep when the grass was over it before being scraped off. He then walks into a Silver Quarter and then finds a Wheat or 2 and also finds a Silver Roosevelt Dime. I couldn't believe his luck on the 2 Quarters but at least we saved them from being lost forever. I found a few Wheat Pennies and 4 Silver Roosevelt Dimes before we left. I suppose by the time I get back there to that site, that the building will be up and who knows what else may be sitting on yet another Old Balldiamond lost to changing times.

We then headed to the original destination. We got there and we both decided to use the Joey Coils we had along since Tim is now seeing this Coil can get some SERIOUS DEPTH and SEPARATION. We detected until we were exhausted from the hot day of detecting, which had to be around 8:00pm. Tim had found 12 Wheats all together on Saturday (if I remember right) and also found a Toy Car, some Jewelry Items, a Large Bone that may have been from a Cow, 3 Older 7-Up Bottles that he dug out of the ground since he seen the tops sticking out of the soil, a Barber Dime, and 2 Merc's. The Jewelery Items may have been owned by the same person since the Ring had a Pink Stone in it and the Necklace he had found had the exact same Color and Shape Stone as the Ring, both being pretty Old and been sitting in the ground for decades I figure. They were found on opposite sides of a Road. What I got was 2 Barber Dimes, 3 Merc's, 5 Roosevelt Dimes, an Indian Head, 24 Wheat Pennies, a Foreign Coin dated 1918, being a 10 Pfennig and the usual Misc. Finds including a Large Bone like Tim's that I dug out of the ground. The Bone won't be Pic'ed since it is larger than the Scanner Glass.

Sunday, I decided to go up to a site that I have wanted to try since an Old Fairgrounds sat on it at one point in time. Tim and Dan did well at this site when they stopped before but I soon found out that it was going to be harder than I thought. There also has been someone else detecting it since I found a few plugs there. I decided to use the Joey Coil since it has the Depth that I figured I would need to find anything Old. I started out along some Tree's and found a couple Wheats and then I headed out to a large open area. It was really quiet out there but I did manage to sniff out 2 Merc's and a few more Wheats. I also found yet another War Nickel and also a Surface 1949 Jefferson Nickel someone lost in a large Coin spill I came across. There was Dimes, 2 Nickels, and several Pennies scattered on top of the ground. I stayed for awhile and then decided to pack it up for the day at about 4:00pm.

On the way back home, there was a Cemetery about a Half-Mile off the road that I have drove by numerous times in the past and never stopped to see if it had a Parking Area. Well, this time I did and as I suspected, it had one. I got out and looked at a Brick Structure that looked like an Entrance to something that told me that the Cemetery was organized in 1872. I thought Holy Crap, there could be Seated here. As luck would have it, no Seated came to light, at least that time. I did find a War Nickel, and about 8 Wheats here. I got a 28 on Digital about 8" Deep and thought Seated! I dug a plug and removed some dirt. Finally got it out of the hole and seen a Silver Edge staring back at me that was Smooth. I thought for sure that it was going to be a Worn Seated Dime but it wasn't. It still turned out to be something good though, and in fact, is probably worth more than what a Worn Seated Dime would be worth. I broke the dirt free and there staring back at me was an Aluminum Trade Token. Yes!!! This one was Good For 5c In Trade and on the back reads Bills Chevrolet Garage, Halstad, Minn. For Aluminum, this Token is in Fantastic Shape. I also noticed a Depression is a section of a large open area here at the Cemetery which tells me that there had to be a Small Church here once. I will have to go back since there is also a Church I noticed that sits in some tree's that is barely noticeable about a Mile Out fairly close to where the Cemetery is. Luckily, no one has hit the Church either and I will have some luck in finding some Barbers there.

I also stopped at a Town Park. I had found a Seated Dime and an Old Brunswick Token here the year before so I knew there could be something still there. This was actually the first stop of the day on Sunday. I only found a Wheat Penny and a War Nickel for Coins but did find some kind of Star Item, an Old Valve Stem from the Old Cars back in the 20's, and a part of a Cuff Link.

The totals were 12 Silver, which were 2 Barber Dimes dated 1911 and 1916, 5 Mercury Dimes dated 1920-d,1927,1942-d,1943-d,1945-d, and 5 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1948,1953-d,1959-d,1962-d, and 1963-d. For Nickels, I found 4 of them consisting of 3 War Nickels dated 1943-p,1945-d, and 1945-s and a 1949 Jefferson Nickel. For Wheat Pennies, I found 38 more. They are dated 09,10,12,17,18,19-d,(2)19-s,20,28-d,30-d,(4)35-d,35-s,37,37-d,39,39-d,39-s,40-d,40-s,(5)41-d,42,44,(4)44-d,45,(2)46-d, and 47-d. I also found 1 Indian Head dated 1897 that is the last Coin with the Wheats. I have some Yard work that I should get done tonight at where I work but I will get the rest of the finds posted tonight. It should be up by 10:00pm tonight with Pics of the Foreign Coin, Token, and Misc. that I found also. So Stay Tuned! Thanks for looking at this portion of the finds and as always, Good Luck and HH to you all that get out during the week. [attachment 96099 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 96100 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 96102 DirtyNickels.jpg][attachment 96104 CleanedNickels.jpg][attachment 96113 DirtyWheatsandIndian.jpg][attachment 96114 CleanedWheatsandIndian.jpg]

James thats awesome,Glad you got to hunt the ground is hard In Illinois except for flood water.Great finds and you missed my post on a big sister find check it out.Have a good one and good luck on your next hunt.:clapping:

I'm playing around some with semi-auto since you and Bryce both use it and seem to do quite well. But it always feels to me like I must be losing depth because it gets so silent in comparison, even w/ if I crank it all the way up. So much to learn. :)

Here is the Token I found. It is a Good For 5c In Trade. The Back reads Bill's Chevrolet Garage, Halstad, Minn. It is in great shape since most Aluminum Tokens start to get ate up by Soil Conditions. The rest of the Token will clean up totally since I did only a quick job so I could get it onto the Computer for you all to see. For the Misc. Finds, I found some kind of Star item that I have no idea what it could have been. No Design or Lettering what so ever on that item. I also found an Old Valve Stem Cap for the Old Cars from the 20's, a Green Bead Necklace, a Life Saving Senior Pin, another Old Pin that had 3 Stones at one time but only has 2 now, part of a Cuff Link, a Battery Operated Butterfly that Blinks Lights, a Clip On Earring with some Stones in it, an Old Zipper, and a Really Old Dinner Knife with some nice Designs on it. The Foreign Coin will be posted shortly. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.[attachment 96126 DirtyTokenFront.jpg][attachment 96127 CleanedTokenFront.jpg][attachment 96128 DirtyTokenBack.jpg][attachment 96129 CleanedTokenBack.jpg][attachment 96130 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 96131 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Here's the Foreign Coin Pic's. It is a Deutsches Reich 10 Pfennig dated 1918. I am not sure what it's made of but I am guessing something close to Aluminum since it doesn't seem to be Copper. It also read 26 on Digital at the time. Here is a quick pic of the Butter Knife once again. You can see the nice Details in the Handle. What ever happen to such nice Craftsmanship? Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH.[attachment 96134 DirtyForeignCoinFront.jpg][attachment 96137 CleanedForeignCoinFront.jpg][attachment 96135 DirtyForeignCoinBack.jpg][attachment 96138 CleanedForeignCoinBack.jpg][attachment 96136 KnifeClose-Up.jpg]

I have the New Explorer Coil also that I will be testing out most likely this next weekend. I hope it gets some good reviews by me but we will see. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Manual sometimes makes Nails and Crown Caps start to sound more better and Semi-Auto tends to quiet them more so you don't dig as many Iron Targets. The more you practice, the more you will know what works in your area. Go Slow enough and you will still get enough of a Signal that will tell you to dig also. Don't crank the Sensitivity too high either, especially in Trashy Sites. It will do more Harm than Good. You could also try Ferrous Tones, but then you will have to look at the ID of every High Tone Item that comes across your Coil. Low Tones are Iron. I have tried it some but I am use to using Conduct Tones. I also have dug a lot of Coins with Iron this year that had Iron above, next to, or below the Coin, which tells me that I have a very good chance of hearing some kind of Signal from a Good Target with Iron. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

Really though. I seen the Post but didn't get a chance to take a look at her. That is one Coin that I am hoping to find one day. Tim, the fellow I hunt with, has found 2 or 3 of them Seated Halves but I have yet to find one. I will check her out and reply to your post. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH where ever you may end up detecting.

Great bunch of finds, James. You've had several 10-12+ silver days in the last year or two as far as I can recall. That adds up
to quite an impressive hoard, I bet. I almost had a day like that last Saturday. Hopefully in the near future, days like that can occur
a little more often.

Take care & HH.
Dan.

Luck plays a huge role in making finds like I do every weekend, that and some Research of course. Some times no Research is involved and I just happen to find a sight with Oldies still waiting to be harvested. The more you use your Explorer the better of a hunter you become. Takes Experience, Trial and Error, and lots of Swing Time to get really good with these great Detectors. I put in the time and get rewarded kindly so anyone can do it, it just depends on how Serious you are in this hobby and of course, other things going on such as Family and other things like that. Thanks for the reply Great Republic and Good Luck and HH on your next trip out.

Usually, I try to get out detecting by at least 7-8:00am and will hunt non stop until close to dark. Tim doesn't know how I can do it, not stopping for Lunch or even getting a Drink on a hot day, but I just keep going like the Energizer Bunny. The best I have done in 1 day for Silver was 22 and that led to the All-Time High of 31 Silver in 2 days. That was last year when I accumilated 323 Silver Coins for the year, my best so far. If I went out every day, then the number would be greater but I usually only go out Saturday and Sunday now. I am glad you almost had a 10 Silver Day yourself. Those days are sure thrilling but can also spoil you which it has done to me. Thanks for the reply Small Change and hope you get that 10 Silver Day that you would love to have. Good Luck and HH.

Especially now with the price of Gas! It's fun to get out and detect other Towns and see what they hold. If someone splits Gas Costs, then we may go further than that, say 150 or so. Just depends if I have any research done for Towns that far out. There's still stuff around here but you have to work for it. Hope this answered your question. Good Luck and HH.

This is a rare occassion for me to detect during the week but I said what the hell!, why not? Only 1 Silver but some other good finds. I'll try and get them posted sometime either tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the response and hope you make some great finds out your way Jeff. Now to run out to Rick(ND's) Bar and show him what I found today after work. Good Luck and HH.

Got to love seeing that much Silver in the pouch after 1 weekend. Good Luck and HH on your next hunt.
