I'm thinking about selling my Gold Bug Pro and getting a Gamma (maybe a Omega). I have decided that I'm more of a coin & jewelry hunter than a relic hunter.

Does the Gamma with the 8 inch concentric coil "x" pinpoint as well as Tesoro detectors do? I don't like having to push a button to pinpoint.

Can you "x" pinpoint with the Omega stock 10 inch (5

Yes they pin point very well. Concentric coils usually do. The Omega/Gamma is no exception.
No exact # can be put on more depth between the two since so many factors involved. I am not sure it could be accurately measured anyway.
I don't think the 11" is much deeper but separates better. I still like the 10" on my omega and gamma the best.
5" inch coil comparing to 8, 10" is again to hard to determine since again, so many factors.

Hope I helped some. Maybe Monte can chime in. He is very versed on the gamma!

That is an idea to consider, and while both are good detectors my personal preference is for the Omega.

Thanks Monte. When I refer to "x-ing" or "+-ing", I'm talking about doing it in the discriminate mode. I have no trouble at all pinpointing in the discriminate mode with my Tesoro detectors. It's a few fast zips zips with the coil over the target area and I set the coil down on the ground. The target is usually dead center most of the time. A surface coin or one that's on edge throws me off a little sometimes. I was hoping that the Gamma and Omega with concentric coils could pinpoint just as fast and as well as my Tesoro detectors do in the discriminate mode. I don't like wasting time pushing a pinpoint button. The more time wasted, the less targets I get to dig.:)

tabman, you will have no problem x and + pinpointing with any of the Omega/Gamma coils. About the only time I use the pinpoint feature is when the target has some depth and being a chance for and older coin. HH jim tn
 
I didn't catch the Disc. mode reference but I know what you're asking. While some models have a delayed response, like the Garrett Ace 250 and some others, the very quick-response and fast recovery of the Tesoro's has always made it easy to isolate a target in the Disc. mode. That was one reason I have enjoyed the White's Classic series, due to the brisk recovery and ability to PP in the Disc. mode, and you can easily do it with the Gamma and Omega.

With either of them, it isn't too difficult to PP in the Disc. mode when using the 3 or 4 audio Tone ID options, but the 1 or 2-tone options are even better.

Thanks once again Monte. I've received several PMs from people who have used both the Gamma and Omega and they recommend the Gamma over the Omega. So, I think I'm on the right track deciding on the Gamma over the Omega, but If I don't find a used Gamma soon to purchase, it looks like I'll be in the market for a new one. I really need to thin my arsenal of detectors by two or more if I get a Gamma. That's a very hard decisions to have to make. Presently I can't decide, because I love all my Tesoro detectors, especially the Bandido II uMax and Golden uMax. The Gold Bug Pro is a fantastic detector. I like it with the 5 inch DD coil, but I get frustrated with having to use the pinpoint button with the 11 inch DD coil. It slows me down too much. It will probably be one of the two that I end up selling. Picking another one will be very difficult. A lot depends on how well the Gamma works out.

Hey Tabman,

I like the the Gamma over the Omega because of weight, volume and lcd display set up. I also believe the 11"DD coil is the way to go and is about 90% the performance of my F75. I also love the single 9 volt battery both units use but you will not go wrong with the Gamma. As for response and pin pointing, love it - coil, brass, bullet, etc killer!
