Re: Hows your Deus finds coming along ?
Well I did test the two some what last Sunday.
Now I did want to detect and winkle - not just test - so the setup was different on each.
The Etrac - fully open and maxed out and large Sef coil.
The Deus in GM mode - which has discrim on and large coil.
The land - heavy iron - nails galore in a corner of a field.
Had five stakes.
First detected with the Etrac and marked the spot - five targets - and then tested if Deus picked up target.
Did this 3 times .
And then the Deus and marked the spot and tried the etrac - five targets the same.
In all cases they matched each other - apart for one time.
No mega deep targets were found that day.
The Etrac sang out constantly a high pitch tone with all the iron.
This made life difficult on high pitch sounds like viccy pennies.
I missed a target with the etrac - a piece of bronze - at good depth - because of this.
But I had it wide open and a large coil.So benefit of the doubt given.
The Deus will dig deep iron a tad more than the etrac, but I am getting to know the numbers better.
I find now and again, a low tone given by the etrac in all metal will be iron.
The crosshairs will normally give this away if consistantly in the right place.
A bar of discrim sorts that - but defeats the point of winkling.
The Deus did the same at times so simalar experience.
2 bits of iron in 10 - not over the top
What I did notice was on some of the etrac finds, when compared with the Deus - I had to slow right down.
Maybe not as slow as the etrac - but not far off.
In the noisy iron infested places - and on small targets - I found it far better to slow down.
So yes it will cover more land - but dont be too hasty.
Well it was only a brief test on tough land.
And not a even control either - but the point was to give me a bit more confidence in the Deus.
And to sum up.......
Its still early days for me really.
The test proved that on small targets - it missed nothing the etrac found.
The two tone proved easier to pick the bronze that the Etrac missed in all the noise - The Deus was noisy but its all low tones due to the two tone programme.....high tone good - low tone iron........which can be used on Etrac - but I never have.
As a novice to the Deus - its easier to learn.
When the sounds of the etrac click - it all makes sense, but it can take a lot of time for some.
I found them as effective as each other in the iron except for those high tones.
With so much noise on the etrac I could miss a nice find - large hammered for example or the piece of bronze.
Perhaps thats just me.
But the Deus in two tone is simple.
I still feel the Etrac is deeper.
Has more grunt for the larger deeper stuff.
Anything bigger than a hammered penny I recon it will be more beneficial - unless the frequency is changed on the Deus to low
If thats done the smaller stuff is missed a bit then so its tricky.
I like the lightness - and the quiet life with the Deus.
But that said, I will not be selling the etrac.
As said before it will work in harmony with the Deus.
If the etrac was lighter and a tad quicker - I wouldnt have a Deus.
But then if it was - it would probably be the new version - etrac 2 LOL
I cant do the long spells now with it so thats that.
But it will sniff out bits the other will miss and vice versa.
Until I do another test and cant pick up a target I cant say anymore really.
But both didnt have any really deep targets on the day.
Maybe the etrac would really show its power then.
