Thought i would post some of my worth while finds for the month of May. It includes, buckles, silver, copper coins... large cents, 2 cent pieces, fatties and other IHs, a whats-it, Civil war era ring, car, military plack, tokens, marbles, buttons, very old neckless piece. Anyone know anything about those Marbles? Im just not sure what they are made of.... clay maybe? For those of you who like buttons ive did a close up of mine. I only hunted a couple of times for silver since i was spending most of my time in a field. Take a good look at those tokens under the military plack, i get several of those anyone know what they are? I also managed over $30 in clad.... $8.17 today.

Neat stuff! Those buttons are very cool and some look to be really early. The key you show may be a railroad lock key. Check the ring handle part for any initials or names. I'm not sure about the marbles, if they are tan or light brown and have no little or no glaze, chances are they are clay. I'm not sure what that military plaque is. You may want to go on the Internet and check out the name on the plaque and other info. We had similar plaques put it at the base of trees along a major park boulevard. They were bronze and thicker than yours and were in honor of soldiers killed in WWI and were put in just after that war. We helped the city locate some of them for their records and to replace some of the damaged ones. Maybe your plaques are similar? Neat stuff and thanks for sharing. HH

Ive no doubt the key may be railroad related since it came from a long gone house not 30 feet from the urban railroad going to Indy. Some of the guys looked at the marbles during out club meeting and yep they are clay. Really old and arent perfectly round, you can kind of see how they were shaped. The plaque represented soldiers from Indy in WW1. The ones ive found died in basic and never made it overseas and were put on trees that have long been gone. Dont know why when the trees dies or were cut down the city didnt retrieve them. You likely cant see those round token looking things under the plaque. I find a good many of them. Several just have initials. Someone said they werent tokens but could be tool sign out tags used by carpenters and such when they barrowed tools. Whats your best guess?

Neat Tootsie Toy Car! You sure have some serious history in your neck of the woods that's for sure. Hope your luck continues! Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.

Dear Dewcon- Those tags (which are usually holed) severed a variety of functions. Sometimes they were just used as tags attached to something to identify who owned it. Most likely though they were tool tags. Companies usually had "tool cribs" that would contain various tool. Whenever someone wanted to use a tool, they would give the tool clerk a tag with their initials or company id number on it. That way, people knew who had borrowed or was using the tool. Whenever the tool was returned, the worker would get his tag back. I can remember my dad using these when he worked as a tool and die maker. These tags were also used as counters to keep track of certain things like tons of coal, bales of cotton, etc. For the most part, they are hard to id to a specific person or company unless you get lucky enough that a full name is on them. These are always neat to find and fun to try to id. HH

Thanks James ..... kind of weak compared to all your silver, hey but it is what it is. That Tootie is about 6" long, dont think ive found one this big before. Token.... at least im on the same sheet of music with you about those tool tags. Now you have an answer about that WHATS IT beside the ring? No one on the nets or in the club has came up with what it maybe yet. Everytime they thing they have it .... they find a reason it just couldnt be that.
