Some Omega 8500 air tests just to show differences in Deep modes and Tone options slide 1

Mike Hillis

Well-known member
This slide compares three different sensitivity settings (50, 60, and 70) using the D1 tone option, for each Deep setting. I was using headphones.
Test targets were all clad. The low conductive test object is a very thin 18kt white gold ring about a size 7. All settings were default except for tone and deep settings.

This slide compares three different sensitivity settings (50, 60, and 70) using the D4 tone option, for each Deep setting. I was using headphones.
Test targets were all clad. The low conductive test object is a very thin 18kt white gold ring about a size 7. All settings were default except for tone and deep settings, and Disc was at 30.

This slide compares three different sensitivity settings (50, 60, and 70) using the D5 tone option, for each Deep setting. I was using headphones.
Test targets were all clad. The low conductive test object is a very thin 18kt white gold ring about a size 7. All settings were default except for tone and deep settings and Disc set at 30

This slide compares each of the Deep settings together for each test object at the 70 sensitivity setting.

May you find the information useful.

You may want to note 70 sens on 8500 doesn't equal 70 sens ok on 8000 for those that may see that it's not as deep.

So are there any conclusions that can be drawn from your test regarding how the 8500 may or may not stack up against other similar detectors?

Hi Craig,

Please explain your statement "You may want to note 70 sens on 8500 doesn't equal 70 sens ok on 8000"

What does that mean?

Mike

meaning 70 sens on 8000 is max gain. 71-99 is threshold adjustment. I'm not entirely sure that's the same on the 8500. Reason I say that is 8000 is deeper at 70 sens by an inch, but at 99 they are both equal to each other roughly.

70 on 8500 is more like 49 on 8000. At least from the ones I've played with. Obviously this I didn't plot it like you did. Could be entirely off. I have an 8000 again now and my previous statements/perceptions expressed on the 8500 in other threas have been validated.

Berryman,
Probably not as there are not any simular detectors to compare it to.

Just bumping an old post for new folks.

Mike, thanks for the info. Tried an 8500 when they first came out. Can't remember why I sold it. Just ordered another one .My age now dictates machines less than 3 #.

Woody, I moved my 8500 after a couple of months of hunting with it as it seemed to false considerably. Other then that I liked it as it was deeper then my version 5 8000. Would be very interested in how you like your newest 8500 if you would be kind enough to let us know. Thanks in advance. HH jim tn

I'd really like to know as well.

In inert sand soil (inland, not beach) with the Mars 10x13 Tiger coil the 8500 hits a fresh buried dime at 9" easily in all modes. Even D0 which is the fast mode hit with good audio The rest were strong loud hits. Was just a quick test and didn't try anything deeper.

Some old air tests I posted years ago. They have fixed the High conductor (1.00 silver dollar) sensitivity issue.

Jim, should have it next week. Will wring it out. You know, looking back, seems I sold My first 8500 because of being very noisy. Hopefully it's a better machine than the originals. I have a bad habit of buying detectors immediately when they come out. Not to wise but then again, my wife had the family common sense.

Yeah, mine was a early one as well. Will be anxiously awaiting your report and hope to hear it run quiet and will hit your 11" buried dime.:big grin: HH jim tn
