Some opinions on digital vs smartscreen please?

I hunted with numbers on another detector for some time and am used to that setup. Do some of you feel the smartscreen on the explorer has any advantages over the digital screen?

If you have the SE, you should have double set of numbers on digital screen.
These numbers correlate to the smart screen cursor positions.
It's up to you, whichever one you want.
Since I have an old XS, it is necessary for me to use smart find.
I like the smart find screen the best.

i mostly us digital came off a whites xlt numbers more used to but do often check back and forth to try and learn smart screen sounds still rule all dig descions

If your targets are bouncing around, it is much easier to see this done on the smartscreen. On the smartscreen, you also have a better idea where the target range is. What is best especially for beginners too...with the factory default, any repeatable non-black range (within the whites range) is something worth digging up. I normally eliminate the crowns on the bottom right since we don't normally get nickel type targets here in Australia. Remembering #s isn't always my favourite thing to do so I like the graph aspect of the smartscreen. :)

The Smartscreen is one of the BIG tools that explorers users have at the fingertips. Watching the cursor movement as you investigate a target is more helpful that simply looking at a digital number(s) readout.

Many new users to the explorers find it easier to transition from other brands with a single reference target ID number to the Explorer graphing language by starting with the digital display. Nothing wrong with that, the volume of information that the explorer can provide you with can sometimes feel a little overwhelming. Baby steps.

like i said earlyier i got se pro the option on etrac showing both screens at same time is way cool would like that on my se think it would help on the learning but wishis only that still love my se

I use the Smart Screen only. I find that where the square hits is very useful. I can almost tell what kind of penny will come out of the ground; Wheat vs Indian or Zinc.

I just like the ease of using the screen. I try to dig all items which hit on right side of the screen.

The smart screen is really acurate and easier to use. But I do switch back and forth when finding nickles Its always 10 07 or 11 06 for nickles.

I agree with you on picking modern nickels with digital screen.
They almost always come in at 5 on the digital conduct scale.
Now if one scans a nickel from circulation, it will likely read 6
but after it stays in the ground and gets tarnished, most of them
will read 5.
This has been my experience when looking for modern nickels in
modern trash such as where a lot pulltabs are.
Now on deeper buried or long time buried nickels, I wouldn't take that
approach.

Its a progression.... you tend to start off using digital if that was what you were used to. I think that may help because its just another screen you can check on deep targets. But i would defiantly think there is more information on the smartscreen... its more visual when you see the target moving. You may get the right digital numbers but not consistantly enough so you may pass up good targets... especially deep ones since the signals are averaged and if you have bad soil its tuff hunting in digital. I can visually see how targets are moving and falling faster on the smartscreen. That said the next transition has to be sound .... its hands down the best way to tell what a target is. If you have to second guess.....dig it.
