Lead? Those guys back then were hardcore serious about busting somebody up! wonder who was the last person to swing them and the last person to feel them? Are they Civil War era? Look like it in the shot...Sounds like a fun winter project for anybody with a torch, lead, and some clay or plaster to up and build a set..

I would think they are Civil War era or very close to it. The spot where I found them is the proposed township (1854) of a place that must have disbanded during the Civil War or shortly after. Everything I find there that I'm able to date is 1850's-1860's stuff. I found these knuckles right in the center of where one of the structures stood.

thanks rob, very fortunate to live in an area rich with Civil War history here in central Missouri.. really never had any idea (or interest) about the history of my hometown when i was growing up here

also, got out of the Navy in 2010, but while i was in, was also fortunate enough to be stationed in Charleston, SC, Saratoga Springs, NY, and Norfolk, VA

basically for about the last 6 years, I've pretty much spent every spare second researching and digging

Hi Walt,

I actually found the $1 coin with the Gold Bug DP (use an F75SE now). I distinctly remember that the vdi was a tad lower than a nickel. It's been a while since I've used the gold bug, but I want to say it was hitting around 50-52 and I think nickels were about a 60 signal on that machine. The spot I was hunting was a very large 1861 Union winter encampment. The majority of the camp is now a large cattle pasture with a small adjacent home that has about a 2 acre backyard. I found that coin in the backyard next to the field. It's my only gold coin to date, hopefully not my last!

the gold dollar hits 25 on the F75, nickels are around 30
