decided to take out my gp3500 this weekend instead of the terra, and well have a look for yourselves :) scored 13 bits for nearly 6 grams lol sry bout the bad pic was taken with my mobile phone.

X-terra 70 equipped with the proper coil can be used for nugget hunting would use a gold machine for optimum performance..

Good on you Fantomv,

Well done if i remember rightly you are from the golden triangle.

That's a nice haul of nuggets!

I've only used the X-70 for gold prospecting.... what sort of difference would I experience with another detector?
Are the signals stronger or are the deeper targets more easily found?

I'm asking because I've really been breaking my back to find gold in the right areas but seem to find far less gold that I feel I should.
Plenty or iron though!

i havnt tried to use the xterra here where i live in the golden triangle due to the ground being to hot, there is way to much ironstone and the xterra drives me nuts with signals, it would probly work well in white clay areas but i find the minelab gp3500 works well in these areas, hopefully i'll post some more pics soon i havn't been back there yet and i got a big area to finish yet :)

Nero if you find plenty of iron with the x-terra then you would find a hell of a lot more with an SD/GP LOL

i meant ironstone or hotrock, its a mineral rock in australia that gives a false signal, vlf machines really pic these up well but gold machines with the dd coil will just pass over these no worries unless u are using a mono coil then it will pick them up :)

There's something I discovered last week that the X-Terra (and probably every other detector) will pick up: It's "smelting slag" from around the mines. Looks just like pumice & is very light so it takes a moment for me to realize the target is not worth the trouble. Seems to be plenty in some areas.

Found my first "hotrocks" the other day too. Annoying, aren't they?!! There was only a few but they were large enough to trigger my DD-HF. Usually that's a hint that my Ground Balance is incorrect for the area. When I reset my ground balance or put it in tracking Mode, the false signal usually vanishes.

Some people claim the "Golden Triangle" is not quite highly mineralized enough compared to other places in Australia and that this is why Minelab should stop getting people to test new coils in the area (which seems to be used as some sort of "Proving Ground") since they're not really pushed to the edge by such 'medium' soil. I haven't been there so I have no idea.

BTW: FantomV, the larger nugget on the top right row looks a little like Mickey Mouse!

lol thanks, places such as wedderburn and inglewood are just loaded with ironstone here, i can see why they do test them here because its some of the hottest ground in the world, a lot of hills are literally purple from it, i will try and get some decent batterys for my camera and show u some pictures :)
