Some round whatzits

Here are a couple round iron whatzits I found recently. Any ideas? My first guess was bits for horses or plow animals, but the one on the left came from a hilltop not likely to see many such critters. Thanks for any info and HH, Mark D.
 
I've dug a ton of those around old farm sites, stagestop sites and abandoned town sites. At the site of Prairie Mount, an old town in Chickasaw county MS that was abandoned by the 1880's, I would bet we dug over a hundred in an area no bigger than 200 X 200 feet. Probably where one of the livery stables was located,
