Some stuff from the first 3 hunts with the Deus.

Went back to the site on Fathers Day with the Deus that Paul(Old California) and I have been hunting and came up with 2 Phoenix Buttons. My 3rd and 4th. One is a # 30 coat button and the other a # 6 cuff button, my first which needs more cleaning. I also dug a 1901 V Nickel, my first which looks to be an early drop but is poor condition because of being in the ground for quite some time. I also dug some thingy's and a quite a bit of trash. The usual square nails and tin and aluminum slaw on both hunts.

On my first hunt with the Deus I came away with various sizes and shapes of ball buttons and flat buttons. Also dug what Paul and I think is a hammer to a old rifle. Would be great if some one would help with identification. This might be the third rifle part I've found at this site.

On the 3rd hunt I didn't dig any buttons but Paul came away with 5 more. He sure is a button magnet. On this hunt I dug what we think may be a musket part and an old possible hammered hook and chain and an 1893 Indianhead Penny.. Any help with identification of the gun parts and chain would really be appreciated.

The 4 Phoenix Buttons pictured were all dug at this site. One with a T2 with NEL coil and the others with the Deus. Paul and I have so far dug a total of 8 Phoenix Buttons at this site.

Some pretty awesome finds! Saw your post on another forum. Was hoping you'd post here as well, so thanks. You and Old California sure have some productive sites.

Would you mind sharing what program(s) you were using? Or at least some of the key details? Also, how deep were some of the deepest targets you dug?

Thanks Rich . Paul(Old California) set up the program for me. He also uses it on his Deus. I'll have Paul list it here. He will be happy to do so. I would do it but don't quite understand whats going on yet. Must be my age and not being to techno.

Hello Rich,

Due to the masking of both mineralization and iron, The Deus and other top end detectors can't detect deep here. On coin size objects lucky to get 5-6 inches if that, But that's ok allot of targets are near the surface due to being farm land getting plowed once in a while.

Here are the settings we are using and are best suited for this particular site, Allot of iron poor mineralization so we're dealing with masking from both iron and tough soil.

El is new to the Deus but already can pick through iron masking with the Deus, A real good hunter stays focused. He had mentioned the site sounds like a machine-gun and guess that would be one way to describe this particular site that is what the Deus sounds like with these settings in the heaver iron areas.

Like to run with Discrimination at 5 instead of preset 6.7 disc level, What this does is give the Deus a small advantage in areas masked by iron. Some iron will sound off as a clear good conductive signal at 5 & 6 but the horseshoe will show upper left iron range so we pass these signals up. These lower disc settings can be unbearable at times especially with new users so if one prefers factory 6.7 preset that is ok too but with comparing my GoldMaxx Power with the Deus a disc setting of 5 appears to be more inline with the GoldMaxx Power.

Then with having the ability to increase Reactivity in these areas helps with separation sometimes running 4 or 5 reactivity depending on iron masking, And as we branch away from the areas laced with iron lower reactivity down to 1 or 2 reactivity but usually stay with reactivity 2 or 3 in cleaner areas. With extreme higher Reactivity levels 4 or 5 the coil is moving at a snails pace short side to side (2.5 foot) swings moving along like a turtle, What I've noticed it's much easier to find masked targets using this super slow 2 1/2 foot swing in thick iron with higher reactivity settings.

Use Tx Power at 2 or sometimes 1 in the thick iron, And run with Silencer -1 need every advantage possible to unmask iron masked targets. And run with Iron volume at Maximum 5, Prefer to hear iron especially when out searching for structures the higher iron volume level helps me zone in on these lost long structures.

Relic Hunting Settings

(Sens) Depends on site, Out in open clean areas low to medium in iron laced sites.
(Audio) 5
(Disc) 5
(Reactivity) Depends on site, Low (1 to 2) for cleaner areas higher (3 to 5) for areas masked by iron.
(Iron volume) Always 5 for all types of hunting.
(Silencer) -1
(Notching) Never
(Tones) 3
(TX Power) Depends on site, Real thick iron lower down to TX Power 1 out in open area TX Power 2.
(Freq.) 17.6 Helps enhance thinner coin signals, Half dimes and worn reales and such. We can punch down deep in this area due to mineralization and iron masking might as well enhance the weaker signals and Freq. 18 does that.

I'm sure have left out other important settings but these are pretty much what we're running,

Thanks for that very detailed response, Paul. Fascinating to read how you've had to adapt to the environment. I've actually recently found a new spot that is much more iron infested than trash infested, a new experience for me. So this is very timely info. Thanks again!
