Some thoughts for detecting

steve in so la

Here are some of the things I try to keep in mind when going out detecting - just thought I'd pass them on for consideration.

1. RESEARCH - get permission beforehand- don't rely on getting it when you arrive. If you are doing nearby towns then get a map of sites from online or go to the library & copy the maps in the town's phone books. Most librarys carry nearby town's phone books & most have a map section inside. This is for schools & parks mostly.

2. BACK UP SITES - Always have one or more backup sites to do in case your main site doesn't work out or isn't available. And don't short time one site to get to the next. Do each one well or leave the goodies for others.

3. EQUIPMENT - Don't scrimp on tools - pay good money for a good digger and batteries. Cut back on lesser things in life but not detecting things.

4. ENERGY - A good breakfast or lunch, water & snacks will keep you going. It's rough when the finds keep coming but you are running out of energy.

5. ATTITUDE - Probably the most important of all - a good positive attitude will bring you many more finds than a poor one. If you aren't up for it don't go detecting, as your problems will keep you from finds & from having fun.

Having made all these mistakes at one time or another I wanted to pass them along to you :)

doing them all will get you more finds, as well you know from all your coins and goodies! #5 is my downfall due to COPD and poor health! My brothers health is deteriating too, as he is having more difficulty in mowing and etc. and is coughing a lot since his bad cold this winter!

Hope you keep on feeling great and going after the elusive treasures!

God Bless!

of us have trouble with # 5 ! Sometimes I stay home if feeling poorly. The winds have been blowing here fpr several weeks - kicking up the pollen. I'll pray for Cliff, steve in so az

Thanks, Steve! Cliff is out mowing the backyard now! The grass is high and I know he will be having hay fever problems and leg cramps.. We have Quinine to take for them and it really does help, if taken in time! Nights spent with muscle cramps are awful!

I used to get cramps from :detecting: all day! Loved to stay out and would stay too long most of the time!! But can't do it any more...a little while and I am done!! Tiredness comes quickly without getting enough oxygen! Oh well, praise the Lord, I was able to do it! Really enjoyed enjoyed going with or without friends! :)

God Bless!

Steve, thank you for that post; very good suggestions! # 2 is my downfall; I'm tooooooo impatient ...have to check myself several times during a hunt and remind myself of that suggestion

I'll save this one in "favorites"
