some xterra 705 questions

Is there any target ID in prospecting mode, whether it be tones or screen?

How is the xterra on small gold in all metal or disc mode with the high freq coils? much different sensitivity compared to the prospecting mode? Anyone ever compare one sensitivity wise to an AT gold?

I had an xterra 70 when they first came out and for the life of me cannot remember why I got rid of it or how well it compared to my explorers/sovs at the time.
I do remember it worked well on brackish water beaches and that when hunting in tracking it would track out/eliminate small deep targets. Once the GB was set it was best to lock in your setting. At the time my favorite coil was the explorer type coil in medium freq.

Anyways Im thinking of going ahead and ordering one, trying to decide on which coil either the eliptical or concentric(thats they only way they come I think?)
I primarily hunt beaches, fresh and salt and some parks/tot lots so small gold jewelry is something I will be looking for. Coins are secondary.

Any comments are appreciated, positive or negative. Ive got an etrac/sov and at gold now and there is good and bad about all of them. I have been reading this forum to absorb all you have been discussing.

I left this thread alone hoping that one of our prospectors would chime in.
Yes, it is very sensitive to small gold, even tiny gold in Prospector Mode. There's a Youtube video out there with an old XT-70 responding to a .02g picker in Prospector Mode with a 6" HF coil.
How does it compare to an AT Gold? On gold with a comparable size coil there might not be much difference, but in every other arena the 705 will whip the AT detectors like a red-headed stepchild when properly configured.

We now have 12 available coils for the Xterra's, four of which are only water resistant. Five of them are HF coils, three are LF, and the other four are MF. So the selection has grown since you had your 70, and it's likely to grow a little more yet.

Congratulations on your order! We'll look forward to seeing your finds.

GL&HH!

If you are primarily looking for small gold, I have found the 6 inch HF DD to be better than the 5x10 HF coil. The 5x10 gets better coverage for dry sand hunting, but the 6 inch has a bit more pop when hitting small gold and thin rings.

Just my observation when testing and using both coils in the field.

If you ever get into coin shooting in parks, get the Coiltek 6 inch LF Digger coil. Super coil for silver.

For some reason, the small coils work exceptionally well on the 705 and with them on, the balance is perfect for all day swinging.

for me with the 6" digger 3kHz the numbers run a little high but it's a great coil it's on mine at least 90% of the time ... actually it has never been off once I put it on ... but most areas I hunt are pretty trashy and that is where it shines ... cleaner areas a 9-10" coil is good and covers more ground ... and it finds tiny stuff, so I'd say a 6" DD in 18.75 would be a killer on small gold

Thanks for the tips. I have a 6" hi freq coil and also the 10.5" med freq. Gonna try the smaller coil next.
