Somebody tell me about 'cache mode' on the F75

I don't expect it to outdo my TM-808 but how bout that cache mode? Is that just the BP setting? Go easy, I know next to nothing about the F75..

Boost Process substantially increases depth under most conditions.

Well yes, that would seem to be the definition but... Essentially the question is what is cache vs boost? In my mind I'm thinking they must be the same-unless the F75 has the ability to ignore small targets when in cache mode-doubtful but maybe?

Cache mode is also sensitive to small objects. It's really only applicable in very clean areas. Also , how the heck are you going to test it ? I for one am not going to bury a manhole cover 4' deep and then start looking for it to gain some confidence. I doubt if 1% of the 75ltds ever get used in cache mode.

Well that's kinda why I'm asking. Mainly I'm researching at this point. I have my two box for caches that may be deeper than I'd like to dig, and most detectors can find larger items at decent depth, so I'm pretty sure these settings might be one and the same with possibly one being a disc mode and the other being an all metal? These are just guesses and I'm hoping somebody has the technical answer to the difference in the two.

I think I have my answer. For some reason I couldnt get search to work (prolly my phone), but found answers using google that brought up findmall threads. I think I get it now. This mode might actually come in handy for me but of course the inevitable questions--HOW deep for what size targets?

Yes, I might want to know if a manhole cover sized target is indeed buried at 4'. We all have different pursuits within this hobby and this mode plus the ability to prospect and be a 'general' detector..interesting.

Will do-thanks!

Where'd that guys post go? Anyway thanks for the recommendation. Lots of great technical info over there. It's not that I expect too much-just that I don't know exactly what to expect out of the F75. There are areas where something easier to handle than a two box, but with more power than a typical detector would work nicely. I currently run an AT Pro and have had great performance, but like anything else, I wonder about the grass on the other side too!

Childish huh.!!
They certainly don't mind if you mention findmall over there but try to help a fellow detector by mentioning Tom's site here and it gets censored--whatever.

Lol, oh well. I like the highly technical info-I'm an (early) retired technical consultant so I 'gots to know' answers to questions that many wouldn't even ask. I can't help it! The more I read, the more I like. Dangit. Just when I can least afford another new toy!

CL: CACHE LOCATING PROCESS
This process is an enhanced sensitivity, slow-speed, version of the dE (default) process.
Its primary use is in locating large deep objects while sweeping the searchcoil several
inches above the surface of the ground; under these conditions it goes deeper than the
other processes. When the cache locating process is selected, the response
characteristics of the Motion All Metal Mode are also modified; these characteristics
include less noise and a slower response speed. In many situations, you may prefer to do
cache locating in the Motion All Metal Mode after first selecting the Cache Locating
process in the Discrimination Mode.

Thanks Elton. It looks like it could be handy but not much info out there as to performance. I feel a backache coming on.

Were all basically Coin and relic hunters, and have few, if any chances to hunt for deep buried caches.

You might be better off contacting a Full time treasure hunter who in fact hunts for this type of buried treasure through out the world...

I could also suggest you contact Fisher Metal Detectors and they could give you real world knowledge about using this mode...

That's probably what I'll do. It's not really a huge thing, but it has it and therefore that must mean something. I'm actually more of a cache hunter than anything else but occasionally search for old coins when I can get permission at an old farmhouse. It also appears i may get the opportunity for some nugget shooting, possibly on an ongoing basis, which could be another use of the F75. Thanks for the help!
