Something strange with the X70

willy

New member
Was doing some swinging with my X70 yesterday and noticed something. When in the prospecting (iron mask) mode with the tracking on and with beach mode activated, the iron mask was disabled. If I switched off beach mode, the iron mask settings came back. Hmmmm. Anyone else notice this? ..Willy.

Hi.

You are correct, I am not able to keep the dtector in beach mode when trying to enter Iron mask.

When GB in prospect and beach, going back to prospecting - iron mask is 0.

When GB in disc and beach, going to prospecting- beach turns off.

Makes You wonder if it should be that way.

is all metal mode. When you are in the prospect mode Discriminate mode is deenergized. You can only be in one or the other.:bouncy:  Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

Hi

Not disc , Iron mask. In prospecting u can use Iron mask from 0 to 20 but when in beach mode that can only be set to 0.

Has nothing to do with the Disc or allmetal mode.

patterns 123 and all metal, but not in the all metal prospect mode or the iron mask prospect mode. . So when you go to the prospect mode you leave the beach mode as soon as you get out of the prospect mode you go back into the beach mode and what ever pattern you were in when you left to go to prospect. Later Jerry aks Tinfoil.

I dunno; from what I gather, beach mode basically extends the GB range in order to handle extreme mineralisation/saltwater. It's still, as far as I can see, in the VCO all-metal mode. The little "pick" icon is still on and it operates the exact same.. except that the iron mask is turned off. ..Willy.

Since beach mode is a type of masking and all-metal is detect everything, I would assume the two are mutually exclusive - in other words, they cannot be run together.

Yes, that is whet I think too, operates just that way. Guess Iron mask is shut off in beach cause the salts would mess it up anyway.

Regards.

Willy,

Either the engineers started to run out of processing power or perhaps having both functions on at the same time would have created a conflict in the software? Possibly due to the extended Gb range of the salt mode??

Like I said just a guess as the engineers will never tell us. ;)

Today I went to a less trashy beach on the inter-coastal and the beach G/B at 33 to 37 in normal mode. It G/B at 3 to 7 in the beach mode. Hell I ran the sen at 28 on both modes. I was switching modes on every target between beach and normal running in pattern 1 and all metal and I didn't lose and depth when I switched modes. I was digging pull tabs so deep they wouldn't even pinpoint so I had to use the prospect mode to even find the target. I won't tell you how deep they were just that the depth meter indication was pegged out. I had to use the prospect mode to pinpoint the target to get a good number ID on the targets. I was right down at the edge of the water and the holes would fill in before I could dump my shovel full. So now I am scratching my head on the gain thing . I would have bet money that the beach mode just dropped the gain down some and you lost some depth. Maybe there is something I am forgetting about how gain works. It sure would be nice to hear some good thoughts on what happens when you go to the beach mode. Anybody want to jump in and give a opinion is more then welcome.:nerd:  . Or maybe we all need to get together and  . Later bud, Jerry aka Tinfoil.

Tinfoil,

But My and willy's interpretation of the Beach mode is that, like most detectors with that feature, it extends the GB range to cover conductive salt sand which is why some sensitivity to very small gold/foil is lost as they come in the same (GB) range. GB'ing is basically discing out the ground response and why when you GB to conductive salt some loss of response to small non-ferrous is a result. Don't confuse that with lowered gain even tho the effect is basically the same.

The beach you were finding those deeps pulltabs reminds of the the pennies I found on a Lake Mich beach at depths that... well you had to be there.

Actually, got to thinking about it, since beach mode extends the ground balance into the metals range, it could serve to track out some iron.. which is the equivalent of disc.'ing (iron mask) it out. ..Willy.

yes willy.

You are correct but the manual dont cover it I think.

This detector is a keeper.

Happy hunting
