This is part of a reply to Leslie and his encounter with Clydesdale horses.
Since only a handful of people know of the incident I am about to tell of I want others to know there was a time when things all could have been different.
"Fear is being a radio operator and having just lost all contact with the DEW line (Defencse Early Warning system of the 60s and 70s) radio stations. 15 minutes to re-establish contact or the B52s will be launching to Russia. As time dwindles down to the last minute, I know the B52s all over the USA and other countries are on the runways with engines running. I know all the ICMB (missile) silos have opened their hatches.
At 30 seconds before the 15 minutes is expired I receive a frantic phone call from one of the radio operators of one of the DEW line stations. He says "call off the bombers and all the rest of the forces....we are all A-OK....a construction digger (backhoe) was digging in Canada and 'snap' there went the phone system between us and you guys...CALL OFF THE BOMBERS!!!!!!.
That was in 1970 and I was the radio operator and was working at Headquarters, Strategic Air Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Everything we ever knew and had experienced since could have been changed - or ended - that day.
God was still in control but had it been left to mankind it would have been a rainstorm few would have survived."
Even today thinking of this brings tears to my eyes at what could have been. A mere accident could have changed the face of life as we knew it - it changed my life. If I didn't have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from Vietnam I sure have it from just this one event.

didn't know about that impending disaster until just in the last few years, but sure glad God took care of it by allowing you all to know before it happened and He is still taking care of His own! Praise God & Thank You, Jesus!
God Bless!

seems there is a movie in this situation but back then National Security prevented anyone from telling of it. After 30+ years I think it is probably safe to say it has been declassified from Secret to just plain scary now.
