Somethings is wrong

Hi All,
I don't post much at all, but I've hit a brick wall. I read about you guys finding coins at great depths. I've tried settings, TTF, this was nice, but I just don't seem to be getting the depth. I have a Tesoro Tejon, which is finding items the Etrac can't even see. I've tried different setting and other things. I'm thinking about sending it in to be checked out for a problem or something. My depth seems to shut down at 6"s. I've done the master reset thinking this may help. Maybe I have a bad coil. I'm frustrated.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What items are being picked up by the Tesoro that the E-Trac isn't seeing. Can you be more specific?

To be more specific, I dug a 45 quarter at 11"s and I was checking targets behind the Tejon with the Etrac and the etrac wouldn't make a pep on this particular target. The tejon has no target ID so I just use it for deep signals, anything above foil. The Etrac wouldn't sound off in pinpoint ether. I was really surprised that the etrac couldn't see it.

LR, my experience has been that in order to get clean, repeatable signals at over 10" depth with the Etrac, I have to run in manual sensitivity set at 26 or above. Your results could be different depending on the type of ground you're dealing with. I know your machine should do better than 6". That's easy for the Etrac, at least in my ground.

Yup,
SOMETHING is wrong.
Not sure what it could be, but my first guess is sensitivity. What is the auto sensitivity running at?
I had a problem the first time I was out with the auto running at 10. This is unusual but it happens
on rare occasions. (maybe at your location). The exact OPPOSITE outcome for me with my tejon and E-trac on deep coins.
The tejon will NOT hit on a 10" clad quarter in the test garden no matter the
sensitivity \ settings and the Etrac has NO problems with it.
I will say the Tejon is better at picking up SMALL pieces of metal (fly poop) better than the E-trac, but not on coins.
I will say that every detector is different, my tejon is way hotter than my friends, and maybe yours is way hotter than mine.
If you know someone else with an E-trac or even an Explorer, let them follow you and see if the results are the same.
Good Luck

What does your discrimination pattern look like on your screen? Etrac will find small stuff at six inches without lifting a finger. Make sure you clean out your coil cover on a regular basis.

Go to your menu and beginning at the far right side and working your way down each column write down your settings and let us see how you have thincs set up.

We'll be watching.

I know running in auto sensitivity in the factory program will pick up coins here in NW Indiana at 10 inches with no problem. I'm betting there is a problem that needs looked at. If you don't have another coil to try then it may be a trip back to Minelab for the machine.

Hey All,
Ok, here are my settings, Deep off, Fast on, Trash high, ground difficult, noise cancel 6, threshold 25, volume limit 30, volume gain 24, response normal, tone ID-#tones Multi, Sounds conduct, variability 25, limits 30, threshold pitch 15, sensitivity manual, manual level 27, auto level +3. I have another coil, a 5 or 6" Excelerator EQ2 Pro. This coil does great in extremely trashy areas. I did notice that on my connector when you plug in the coil, it wobbles a little, not sure if this is right. As for the manual sensitivity, 27 is about as high as I can go with out it going nuts. On my pattern, I just set everything like above and switch to quick mask and block out everything from FE 25 down. Pretty much and open screen. I dig all signals deeper than 5"s. I have hit some deep targets, but have turned up to be iron screaming like a half dollar.
I just checked my coil cover, had some dirt in it, but not much.
I do have a Sovereign Elite, wonder if the coils are compatible?
Thanks for the help.

I'm leaning towards Larry NWI Detector's diagnosis. I think it might need to be sent in for a check-up. Sorry, but with your settings, it should've picked it up.

Hey all,
I did some testing with the 2 coils I have. First I tested the small 6" coil, it will pick up most items at around 5 to 6 inches. Swapped to the standard 11" and the best it will pickup a quarter is around 7"s. I'm thinking I have a coil problem. Does anyone have a coil replacement suggestion? Something that is around the same size as the 11" or smaller that will get close to the same depth?
Thanks,
LR

If your E-trac is still under warranty, I would call the folks at Minelab and explain your troubles. They may have you send in both the detector and the coil.

The 11" pro coil is an excellent all around coil.

Either you are a Tesoro dealer or your E Trac is in need of repair. My Tesoro won't come close to the depth of a properly setup E trac...I would call Minelab.

What was this, I had in now way implied I am a Tesoro dealer. If you have the Tejon and it won't come close to the depth of an Etrac, then I would figure you don't have your Tesoro set up correctly. My Etac is great with my one and only other coil I have, with the standard 11" it is just not doing what I think it should do in the depth dept. 7" on an 11" coil is not right. I'm going to send my detector back for a complete check up.
Thanks everone for the help.
