Sometimes winter sucks

Wednesday my debit card was compromised for the 4th time this year. Went to change car and homeowners insurance and found out that they were all paid 30 days early, now I have to pay the new insurance out of my pocket and push for a refund.
And now the ground is so frozen I can't detect. THAT chaps my hide.
Sorry, just venting.

No hunting because of frozen ground-
Not a thing we can do about that unless we move south!
Bummer about the debit card. Personally I got rid of mine because of similar occurrences.
I ditched the cash station card too, as I could never keep track of the account balance because despite my best efforts I would never write anything down. Talk about being bummed out-
Coulda bought an Etrac with what I spent on overdraft fees one year.
Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Talk with your insurance agent personally. You will get a refund, and hopefully that will speed things up and restore the ol' cash flow.
Good luck and happy hunting

I know the feeling.
I now have no credit cards at all, and only a debit card. The debit card is only for online purchases, and money only gets put into that account for that purpose, so it's never in there more than a few hours.
I was an identity theft victim 4yrs ago, and I self imposed a 7yr freeze on my credit with all three credit reporting bureaus to prevent any new credit being established in my name.

Ground here is frozen too. We're supposed to have a pretty warm week ahead, so I'm hoping to get at least one more detecting "fix" before packing it in for the season.
From now until spring my "spare" time is mostly spent cutting and splitting wood to heat my house. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, natural gas isn't available, and given the price of propane, wood is the answer. I still burn propane for hot water and my stove, but over the last three years I've spent less on propane than I used to spend each month through the winter.

Add to that that over the last 8yrs most of the bad things that have happened in my life have occurred Sept-Nov, I work outdoors year round (shoeing horses) so whatever the weather is is what I'm enjoying, and I'm not getting any younger, so it all boils down to my not caring much for winter either.

I know we can't do anything about the weather. I was just feeling a little frustrated.
One of the reasons I am switching insurances is because my agent is so non-responsive. So I won't be talking to him directly.
8 years ago a guy whose first name is Willie and has the same middle initial and last name as mine caused me much grief. Since then I seem to have my debit compromised at least once every couple of years. It seems to be happening more often lately. Nobody takes checks anymore so I'm not quite sure how to deal with it except by using cash.
But, to keep this detector related, I asked my wife for a Detecting Buddy for Christmas. Looks like it might be a simple solution to arm fatigue. Hope Santa gets my request.
Happy Holidays, everyone!

Feelin' bad for you Billf, we hunted Friday and Saturday in the snow! 4 of us Friday, 3 of us on Saturday. Friday was pretty rough with the snow building up on the coil, cold toes, and muddy gloves. My control box cover got so muddy I couldn't see the display a few times, I had to scrape my hands against the trees to try and clear the mud. Today we had some milestone finds but I'll wait for Mapper65 to do the post :)

HR53,
I try to get out as often as I can in the winter. The frozen solid ground doesn't last as long as it feels like. I like searching when there is more of a chance that the ground is wet, like heavy rain or melting snow. I am always able to pick some better keepers out of the trash.
Can't wait to see what you and Mapper found. Sure wish I lived in an historically rich area as you folks.

I'm starting to wonder about my debit card. Every few weeks when I balance my checkbook it's a good 15 to 20 dollars short from what the bank says I should have and it just keeps getting worse every few weeks. I think I need to get a new card and number..

As far as MDing, it's been froze up here for 2 weeks now so I'm going ICE FISHING tomorrow, yipee. That's how I deal with winter. I'm going to have that heater as hot as I can stand in the ice tent, lol

Mark, I would look into it. These thieves are sneaky. They don't take much, $20-30, but they get it in other states that alerts the card member services that something isn't right. I look at my bank account every day, but so far CMS has caught them before I do. Be safe, check with your bank.
Been raining today and upper 30's, will poke the ground tomorrow to see if its frozen.

Just trying to cheer you up Billf, not making fun of you or the situation! ;-)
Hope things get better for you soon.
As far as insurance goes I've always used the local guy even though he's not the cheapest. What I lose in cost is more than made up for in customer service.
Rest easy that whomever ripped you off and caused you all these credit problems will get his in due time.
Regards,
Bik

Dang, Bik. $9.99? I'll take it.....wait a minute.....
If I order in the next 10 minutes, will you double my order?

I hope these guys get theirs, it gets worse everyday. Dirtbags.
I am going local on insurance. Its just that the big F has been raising my rates at incredible increments. The same coverage by a competitor is 1/3 the cost. That's over $100/mo. less. Not chump change by any means.

It rained most of last night, temps in the lower 40s. Grabbed the 705 and headed out.
Got lots of good signals but the ground is hard as cement at 3-4" down. Frustrating because I don't know what I'm giving up. I just can't get through it that hard.
Found: 1 memorial penny. Owner must identify for return.
