Hi,

I'm new at the forum.

I have a question about the discrimination mode (sens: 80 discr level: 40 tone: 1)
When I'm sweeping the searchcoil, sometimes I hear a weak sound and there is no reading (target ID).
It this is a false signal/chatter or is this a small target/ or a small target deep in the ground ?

Thanks

John

1. Make sure your ground balanced.
2. Reduce your sensitivity to around 70 -75. (with your coil in the air increase or decrease until the machine is stable. You shouldn't hear any chatter or chirping. Once it levels out then back off about 3 numbers).
3. Scale back on your disc. setting to around 15 -20. This is where using more than one tone comes in handy. I like to use at least 2 but prefer 3. This will allow you to pick up some iron but disc. it out using your tones.

It sounds like there could be a combination of too much disc and too much sensitivity. HH

could well be a good target thats to deep for the meter to register ,if in doubt dig it is the motto ,it rarely fails to work
apart from that i always set my disc at 10 iiiiithats where the deepies are hidden

never run single tone much but quit using DP tones because I got too many signals with no numbers but good tone. Now I just use one of the other tone modes, I like 4 tone best for coin hunting.

Hello John.

I was wondering if you are a UK detectorist, for if you are, then my T2/F75 series of articles in the UK Treasure Hunting magazine covered this phenomena.

I describe the cause as that being the result of scanning across what I've termed ' A COLD' rock.

It is a natural stone fragment that has magnetic qualities but low conductivity

The resulting response is then exactly as you describe.

You should dig and recover a specimen to prove the point.

The counter-part is a rock that does give a reading, together with an audio response.

I call that one a HOT rock, for the reasons of causing an audio response.

It also produces a low value of TID, ( hence audio) depending on its size and degree of conductivity.

An example is what we UK detectorists call CINDERS. A mineral remains that is porous and can absorb water.

Natural sandstone fragments that retain moisture could be also become 'HOT'.

Even a house-brick fragment that has absorbed moisture, will become HOT. (Become slightly conductive}

Hope these answerers are of some help................MattR.UK.

p.s. My definitions are somewhat different from those characterised in the manual.

I think my interpretations are more meaningful in relative terms of cause and effect.

.

Hi Matt,

Hello Matt,

I'm not a UK (Untied Kingdom) detectorist and I do not have the Treasure Hunting magazine (I would like to have this, where can it be bought)
Reason, I'm living in the Netherlands.
Here there is much negative discussion about the T2, why I do not know.
For that reason I can not find any independent discussion forums in the Netherlands.

This forum (great site) there are very much things about the T2 (more pos. then neg.) and I learn every day about it.
I have found small coins at 16 inch (
