Sound problem

MassSandman

I'm using my XS the other day when the sound/tone cuts off from the earphones. I unplugged them from the base and the speaker was working fine. (I finished the hunt using the speaker only...shabby results and all kinds of stares from the uninitiated because of the sounds.) I tested the earphones at home, they're fine. I plugged the earphones directly into the jack near the battery insert, sometime it works, sometimes not. Sometimes there's static sometimes it's perfect. A loose connection maybe? How do I fix this, or do I? Is it time for a trip to Nevada for my XS? Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm not saying this is your problem and you probably checked this already, but that happened to me some time ago. It turned out the rubber battery cover was not properly seated covering the MD end, thus the phone jack was not connected properly? Also, I would try another pair of headphones on your ML before you send it off. Just some thoughts. HH

MassSandman,

If you have the XS the 1/8 jacks were notorious for crapping out. That is why Minelab went to the 1/4 jack on the XS II. If you are handy you can replace the jack yourself. Mine went out in the first couple months of use and I replaced it with a 1/4 jack.

What you have is either a bad Headphone Cord or you just have to get some Electronic Cleaner spray from a Radio Shack or any other place that handles Electronics. Just spray it into the Headphones Jack and let dry and it should work good as new unless the cord is bad.

Thanks, Gents. I will try all three suggestions and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks so much for yourcourteous responses. HH
