Got my GQss today and off the the beach I went. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> A thunder storm came up about 35 minutes after I got there so didn't get chance to use it much. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> I guess it's because this machine is new to me and completely different form anything I've ever used but I didn't really notice any differance in the tones. IS this because I'm new with a pulse machine and need to learn it better? My headphones aren't any good for this machine so I'm ordering new ones. When I say they're not anygood I mean I have no violum control. It was murder on the ears. Tomorrow I will go back to the beach and try to learn the new machine. I did dig a metal hair clip at 16 inches and had a strong signal.
Will report again tomorrow.

As far as my ears lead me to believe, the Goldquest generally emits a single tone (pitch) when signalling a target. It's the makeup of the tone(s) that's telling your brain what might lie under the searchcoil, and believe me, it's telling you more than you might realise. It's hard to describe these sounds in writing, but your brain will soon enough "log" all these signals for future reference. I'm only just starting to learn about this on the Goldquest. I still dig about 95% of targets.
As for the audio volume....scary isn't it <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">
I purchased a set of Grayghost Underwater headphones from Mr.Bill, and they do a sensational job of both limiting the explosive volume (whilst still maintaining maximum depth) and also slightly lowering and softening the pitch of signals, which is just what I want.
As for 16" on a hair clip, well that's just the beginning, the Goldquest will punch down really deep on gold targets of all sizes. Watch out for those faint surface signals because it can usually mean two things....it's nearly always a deep target, and the chances of it being junk is reducing as you dig deeper.

Hi Tom,
Sorry to hear that the audio was too loud with the phones you used. This is always a difficult one because there are many phones on the market with widely varying sensitivity. I've had customers in the past saying that the audio wasn't loud enough, especially when you get high wind and crashing surf. Better to have audio that is adequate for all situations and be able to turn it down by using phones with volume controls, as suggested in the operating instructions.
I'm sure that when you get used to the Goldquest and what it is telling you, you will have great success.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding about if the Goldquest SS has multi-tones. It does not. It also does not need a coil cover, (superior coil construction). <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Thanks all, I can't wait until this afternoon to get on the beach. I was aware the Pulse has only one tone it's just going to take a while in learning . I'm sure when I get back today I will know it a little better.
