hiya guys,,did you know you can convert the variable tones to a constant single tone if prefered on your g,t,
??? there is a shunt on the board you can move,,it has 3 pins the multi tones is on pins1 and 2,,and single tone on 2 an 3,you just pull up off the board and move it rearward onto the other pin,,you can as i have,,, fit an on,,on switch ,,the common to the centre and pin 1 on one side and pin 3 to the other side of the switch,,,with around 5 inches of cable and a 3 pin board connector at the other end,,,you need to take out the battery remove the 2 screws completely ,, push up gently on the case above the cable connector and the box will open,,,open up the foil faraday shield gently and revealing the board look toward the control knob rears near the edge of the board in roughly the centre, and you will see the shunt(,moving this back gives a single tone, if you didnt want to drill a hole in the box for the switch),,the 1/4 in hole should be to the right of the recess for the coil cable connector, in a little boxed area,,,it has 2 reinforcing fins to it,,you will see it its like 2 sides of a box, find the ideal hight for the hole,,, you will use the switch body as a guide to make sure it will not impede anything and that it has enough room next to the connector,,put on a piece of paper tape to assist in getting the right center for you to drill (use a tiny drill as a pilot followed by the correct size drill for the switch),,when finished put in your pre-soldered switch, push on the 3 pin board connector,,REMEMBER THE MIDDLE CABLE GOES TO THE MIDDLE OF THE CONNECTOR AND THE SWITCH the other two cables on either side of the switch and connector,,, close the faraday shield and hook the cover under the control box fascia and lower into place,,you will have to press inwards on the box above where the connector is to match up the 2 box halves,,it goes together easily,,press shut and screw together again,,,now reconnect cable to box and put in batteries,,,your done,,,now you can have the tones anyway you want at the flick of a switch,,,best of luck,,rgds ,,comcat:ukflag:

and theres another model that had a toggle on the faceplate as well, I think it was the XS Pro 2.

They all have that adjustment inside and also a silent search adjustment.

interesting possibility, although for me it would be like having a color tv and switching it to bw, i like the info the gt provides through the variable tones

And the Elite, although why one would want to do it beats me

yeah babulin,,,but b n w gives colour also..you still get wide iron tones and shallow target tones,,but tyhe machine still tells you to dig,,as you still mhave a tone??? the thing is i use the g,t, and the tone i,d, aint that illuminatin in trashy areas,,as everythin sounds the same in high tones,,the type you likle to dig,,but you find that the target is crap??? in a mono tone its still variable,,,wide,,,shallow,,, or short,,,,and the tones still give you options,, but in a different way the machine still gives you options,,,,and still QUALIFIES the target,,,it is sometimes a good thing to simplify,,,just for a change,,and the conversion will at least change things for you as well ,and of course back again,,, at the flick of a switch,,,,,,good luck,,,,,comcat:ukflag:
