Sovereign Coil Question again?

GENE EDWARDS

New member
I have the Sovereign GT with a Coltec 15" coil. Does anyone know if this is a good coil or is there a better coil for the GT? Also what would be the best headphones for this machine? I'm using Nuggetbusters right now, I don't know if thats a good choice for beach hunting. They are for gold nugget hunting machines. Also the all metal sound seems like a funny sound, does anyone elses GT have this hard to explain sound, it's not a beep but more like a double woo woo. Sure hope my woo woo's ok. Thanks, Gene

iv used the WOT and it is a good coil on the GT.i did notice i could only run the Sensitivity about 1/2 before it would go nuts...i like the Sun Ray S12 much better...less weight and just as deep and i can run Sensitivity wide open with it. on head phones i just use the low end Jolly Rogers and like them just fine! iv tried others and don't see any diff from JR's...just more $.

Coils.....
The coil that is most suitable for the purpoe and place is the best coil. No one coil is the best for everything everywhere.

All metal track/fixed is vco. It shifts up or down based on target conductivity and varies in the amount of loudness and the amount of tone shift depending on target strength.

for your info.....
The point that the tone in all metal will shift high or low from the default "no target" tone is just below zincs.
Must be ground balanced for this to work consistently.

My favorite all around coil (even in heavy trash) is the original 8" Coin Search coil. They are not choice coils for water as they tend to float, but I've used mine for years in shallow fresh water. On the saltwater beaches I can get 18 inches on coin size targets and that and more on civil war bullets of .57 caliber or larger. As for headphones, my choice are the Detector Pro Black Widow's, especially for the Sov's.
Good hunting,

David of D.M.D.,

Thanks for the info. I did order a 8'' sun ray Intruder, I haven't gotten it yet but if it dosen't work on my GT I don't have to except it I'll contact you to get me the right 8'' coil for this machine., Thanks again, Gene

You should have no problem using a S/R S-8 on your GT. Sun Ray makes excellent coils IMO.
