Hello everyone i was just checking to see what coil works the best for finding coins and relics 8" 10" 12" i have found a lot with my whites MXT but i just started useing the Sov. Elite it is going to take a lot of geting to now better it has sounds and numbers going all the time man its driveing me nutsss! LOL! so if you dont mind any help would be nice Thanks everyone! Harvey!

Hey Harvey,
Normally I would say use the 8". The smaller the better especially in trashy areas. You can slip between some of the junk that way. But I purchased a Sunray S-12 recently and man is it a deep seeker. I have to swing real slow though. It is pretty sensitive to small silver I've found. Funny, I started out with a DFX first and the noise drove me crazy. That's why I settled on a Minelab Sov. Elite.

Willy if the MXT had a volume control it would be a lot better the noise was to much comeing from the speaker so i got a sov. elite it keeps my ears from hurting Thanks willy! I have been thinking about geting the sunray 12" coil i just mite now for shure!

I have become a big fan of the 8 in. coinsearch coil..I have used the tornado 1000 and tornado 800,I feel the coinsearch is better than those two..but it depends on the type of soil and if you got alot of trash or not...people seem to like he sunray s12 intruder..I think any coil on a sovereign would be great..they just all have subtle differences///good luck.......Adam

if you're doing dirt or hard pack then the 8" coil is the one you want. Pinpointing is easier than with a larger coil. Also it will be easier to use in areas where there are multiple targets close to each other.
On the beach the bigger coil is the way to go. Even if you get multiple close targets it's no big deal because scooping the sand is so easy.
I use the 8" and 11" 'coinsearch' coils. The 11" is for the beach and I use the 8" for dirt. I used the 8" coil at a 49'r transit camp in Panama and it was just stellar. Picked up half-dimes and other relics like musket balls really nice.

I would recomend the smaller coil to learn the Elite with. The 8 inch Coinsearch is my favorite to learn the detector with, these are hard to find, but there is a few around. The next coil would be the S 8 of SunRays as it too is a great coil. With the smaller coil you will be able to seperate the targets better and make learning it so much easier. Once you know the Elite than the S12 will be a great coil in the right area as it covers alot of ground. The problem is you will have more targets under the coil at one time and make it harder to learn it.

Everybody pretty well have given you very good advice.I have the S12 and its very deep.Last summer I was able to detect a stirrup lying flat at 2 feet deep.So I guess it would be great to dig them relics and I finds its easier to pinpoint with the S12 compared to the BBS 8 inch coil. But do keep your 8 inch coil for trashier places.Hope this helps .HH <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">
