Sovereign Gt

isn't this fun, someone needs a 180 meter, I need a Sovereign 8 0r even a 10 Tornado coil for a XS 2 I got Really any Minelab BBS coil, I had a brand new 8 inch tornado coil I had for a few years and when I went to use it the coil wire is all cracked up, could have sold it before I knew the cable on the 8 inch I had was bad, glad i didnt sell it as I need that coil now and the cable is all cracked up. The one that I got with the XS2 had a 8 inch Tornado coil also, but the person I bough the Sovereign from Thought I could be able to fix the coil with a new cable with no problem, but the new cable has the 4 wires, but the colors are 3 black wires and one 1 white wire. I mark the wires as there was numbers on the wire, but I got it epoxy in down by the coil The numbers rubbed off the wire that go to the connector and I lost the diagram which I had for which wires I mounted and epoxy to the coil so I could put the connector on. I tried a few time to see what is what, but seem to get a coil that works backward as when running coin across it the threshold nulls out.. Now the new coil with the cracking cable from sitting I am afraid to even try to change the cable on. Could put heat shrink on it, but will make the cable hard to wrap on the shaft as the inter small wires are great yet. When I got it it had a 550 meter, but I had the resistors to make it a 180 meter as they are the best for me and others. My other option as I know I read where some one can change the cable, but not remember who (that is from me getting old) as I would like to have it done.
I see SovElite is looking for a nice GT which I have, but It only been used a little and is loaded with the S-Probe the SunRay DTI 3 meter, but have too much into it to quote a price as I love this detector and when and if I can get out to detect again I hate to not have it as we see none want to part with their GT, plus talking on taking it with me when I go and sure hope I can handle the heat if i go down, but hoping to join many of the other treasure hunter that are gone in the big person in the sky as i am sure it will be real Heaven

When I was selling Sovereign I took a lot of the 550 meters in a wish I had them know so convert to 180 and resell, same as the coils most were the Coinsearch coil and people wanted the new 8 or 10 inch water proof coil. The big problem now is the Sovereigns have the BBS coil and the only one were on the Sovereigns and Excaliburs and no other coil will work on them and being they are no longer being built there is no coils for them so being scarce they are not cheap for those that have any good coil.

If anyone knows of someone that can replace the cables on my 2 8 inch Tornado coil let me know so i can get my XS2 going or maybe sell it.

Hello there Rick
Yeah, wish i have know it beforehand. Got into this game late with Minelab! Hear about Minelab way back when i had Whites. Have a whole bunch of White's detectors and just added Minelab to it! The one i was looking was pricy at that time and now i have it ! and hnow im finding those coils we are looking for is scare too! Both 8 and 10 coils wires are frayed but still works! No dunking in water either but trying to find that out too going in the streams and river i have around here, but, do i want to find out? Wires so tiny and wondering if i could solder them myself too?
Now that i went reading about everything on coils and wow im impressed how coils work! but damn those wires so tiny and i have big hands!! Well not going to stop me cuz ill be trying that out with the Seasearch coil i got without a connector. Then if i can do that then i can trying fixing the others i have and ill let u know too and fix urs too so u can go detecting!! In the meantime trying to figure out which tiny solder iron is good for this job!
Got coils for those minelab and kinda went overboard with this coils! Stupid Ebay had all them on the web and me clicking on them!!
Also notice that those different coils has different wires on them too. Found those wires selling at Mc Master Carr about an hour drive from me and will get some wires and work on this coil soon. Kinda wondering about those coils itself too taking it apart and whats not, so ill find out eventually how hard is it to fix it then ill know! Learning this all as i go along. A lot to know what works for which and what u can do with it! Even finding those wires are 4 or 5, 2 black one and red and wire and so on! Sure hope i can fix this but gotta get a soldering kit to do this but which one?? ill find out and if i can do this ill let ya know ok? No one out there will do this cuz they dont know! Waiting for my car being fixed and then i can go and do this job. Wish i had finish my electronics class in HS!! Just a drag when things break down!

Is that a concentric 8” excel coil ? And if so, are you sure it’s for the Sov. models ? I’ve never came across one of them. Only one , was for a ETrac.
I had found a 8 inch concentric coil for my Sovereign on one of the forums classified and got it as it was new and the guy never used it. Once I got it and tried it I thought something was wrong inside the coil as my Sovereign was not running smooth and not stable. I contracted the guy I bought it from and told me to send it back as he had warranty on it and sent it back and got a different one and it too did the same thing so I sold it also. The dealer he got it from was the only one selling them.
Before I had this one I was ask to field test 3 concentric coils from someone as it was sent to several of us that knew our Sovereigns well. there was a 8, 10 and a 12 inch coil at different times so we all tried one and sent it on to the next person to try and not saying anything until we all had a chance to try them, this way we were not swayed the next one to get our honest impression on them. the 8 inch was OK and nothing special in my opinion, the 10 inch i didnt like at all but the 12 inch was a great coil and said said if they ever made them I wanted a 12 inch for sure and maybe the 8 inch, but felt the 10 inch was not to my liking. I think the only problem they never made them was the Explorer just came out and knew every one would have wanted to get a Explorer so the Sovereign may not be a seller and that coil only fit the Excalibur and the Sovereign and the cost is cheaper to make 100 of them instead of maybe 10, so not cost infected . That the reason I wanted a concentric coil I got from the guy on the classified but it was from a different maker of the coil and never heard of one being built.

Could be for the Explorer.
Looks like the same plug.
If so. Both FBS tech.
Would it run on the Sov ?

I did have the 8" tornado and sunray.
Haven't found them yet.

Unfortunately I can't test on either machine.
I've always kept the batteries topped off.
Last fall I was bed ridden I forgot to charge them. All of them went bad.
Not bad for 11 year old batteries I guess.
Gonna have to get them rebuilt this spring.
