Sovereign Meter Repair help needed

dbsmokey

New member
I purchased an used Digisearch meter on eBay for pretty cheap (~$100). I used it a few times, but suddenly, during a hunt the Sovereign threshold became erratic. I hit a target and discovered that target was the U-shaped piece, pictured below, that belonged to the plug at the end of the meter. Because the screws worked loose, the wires were not protected so they frayed, which can be seen also in the picture. Does anybody know where I can get a small screw for this connector? (I only found one in the grass). If not, does anyone know how hard it is to find this plug? Also, has anyone ever changed one of these? How hard is it?

Thanks

Easy fix, keep it simple, cut wires off about an inch or two to match wire color to pin number.Note wires probably have a different color on pins than coils so leave connected and match color code on meter connector. You Tube has examples how to pin mic connectors watch at least a couple of times and apply to your situation.Use very thin solder wire and low watt solder gun.Even a rookie a twenty minute repair.

Tandy / RadioShack should have that fitting, if not they will definitely have a 4 pin mike plug which should have the same screw.

Better still, look around for a local Ham Radio Operator, if they are anything like me they will have a drawer full of them. Into the bargain it would be a doddle for most hams to do the repair for you in a few minutes.

Thanks Ron and Birdseed. I will check at Radio Shack. Even if I do the repair, I fear it will break again without replacing the screw.
