Sovereign XS

Eric

New member
At last...

Yesterday I received the Sovereign XS that I bought recently. After giving it a good clean up, I took it to the fields today for a 2 hour hunt. 2 other detectorist just left this field as we came and I guess it was heavely hunted. Stil many musketballs, and 19th century coin, 18th century coin and a part of a Roman fibula that was silver plated before.

Happy with the Sovereign.....:)

My son Ace was interested in the Sovereign as well as you can see.

Eric. The Netherlands.

In fact I'm really happy with the performance of the coinsearch coil although........... I plan to do more saltwater beachdetecting and the coinsearch is not waterproof:unsure:

Would the minelab 8'' or maybe the SEF 12x10 be a better choice on the beach?

Thanks, Eric.

Hi Eric,

The machine is in a nice condition, also nice finds as well.
Who was leaving??? Stuart and his friend perhaps? hehe

Regards,
Bas

Eric your Sov is in great shape and should give you years of great performance if you take care of it.

I would put a plastic bag over it anywhere near salwater to keep corrosion off your toggle and the insides of the box. salt air is very corrosive.

As far as which coil to buy, what are your beach conditions? If they are really trashy, lots of targets closely located, I would stick with a smaller 8" to 10" coil.
Otherwise a larger coil like the one you mentioned will give you better coverage and most likely increase your depths of finds. How mineralized your beach is can be compensated usually with the proper use of sensitiivty and sweep speed so let the trash amount dictate which coil is best for your use. Also what coils do you have available to you? there are loads of waterproof coils available for the Sov, great for wading or just skimming the shoreline.
you will be best to keep your coinsearch for the fields, a solid coil doesnt get hung up on stubble like the open coils do and the 8" size you have is great for learning on and isolating up targets(easier than a larger coil).
coils for your Sov are made by minelab, sunray, coiltek and of course the SEF coils you already know about. Look into them all before you make a decision as they can be expensive.

Good hunting to you,
Neil

I will try to look again for a nice controlboxcover. Few yeears ago when I had the XS2, I bought a walborn cover in the UK that fitted very well. As for the coil, I will have to think what I like the most. I don't think our beaches are mineralized but they can be trashy. Now, i can buy the older TS800 coil and a 12x10 SEF so I really have to think what suit me best.

HH, Eric.
