sp22 8.5 coil for simplex

Yes, I tried it and the SP24. 5X9.5 when they first came out. I quickly settled on the elliptical because it was better balanced thanks to the much better rod-mount location closer to the soil's center.

The 8.5 round coil has a bad, rearward position, and my friend and I both felt it was a heavier coil, too.

If I was working a Beach I'd use the SP24 or the stock 11" coils.

thanks monte. I don't understand why they keep coming out with DD coils an leave off the conc. coils. I'm talking mostly about for fresh water hunting. When your in water where you cant see the coil, D.Ds or much harder to find the target. an that goes double FOR d.dS. I have a 7 inch conc. coil for my kruzer, I use it some, it just don't cover area fast enough.

I don't understand their reasoning, either, but it is shared by most detector makers since they started going to larger-size 'standard' coils in '88. That was White's when they switched from an8" to their 950 Concentric, Minelab soon was using 101" or10½" DD's, FTP followed that trend with the 11' BiAxial (a nifty title for Double-D) on the T2 in 2006 then oher Fishers and Teknetics, and it just kept changing. More an more over-size 'standard' coils, fewer smaller-coil offerings, and the shift to DD's and few or no Concentric's.

You would like a good water coil for the Simplex +, but while the SP24 5X9½ DD is a good coil and works fine .... it isn't what I wanted or a lot of others. I wanted a 5", DD or Concentric, and definitely their round 7" Concentric for the Simplex +. I know a lot of people who didn't buy a Simplex +because they couldn't get a good smaller coil for their hunt needs, and also several who had one, but without a 5" DD they got rid of it.

Hopefully they will put in some design-time to make sure those two coil sizes are available when they introduce a SMF model.
