Space rock hunting!!

Who hunts for space rocks? I've been on the prowl in W.Texas but no luck as of yet. I know they have to be out here. I've watched them fall from the sky at night very close to me but no luck as of yet.

My wife had a near miss several years ago. There was a meteor that entered the atmosphere nearby and broke up. One of the smaller pieces came within 20 feet of her , so close she could hear it overhead. I searched the hillside several times in all metal with no luck. Couldn't even find a burnt spot:(
