No, I have just found them at various colonial sites in North Carolina. The last spanish piece I found was a 173? cut coin. I love spanish silver!.....Aaron

i told this story before but maybe some out there missed it. i was at my brother's house in cape may new jersey sitting in the kitchen having a cup of coffee one morning and the neighbor came over to show my brother what his daughter had found on higbee's beach. he dropped some coins on the table. if i remember correctly two were gold and three were silver.i had no idea what type of coins they were because i had never seen a cob coin before. she was walking along on the beach looking for sea shells for a school project or something and they were just laying there above ground. sounds fantastic doesn't it? well after doing a little research, i learned that blackbeard's first mate was a new jersey gent by the name of israel hand. the hand family is still living in the area and are probably the wealthiest of the local families. now, i am not saying blackbeard buried treasure at higbee's. i just thought it was a great coincidence and liked to think that a treasure was buried out there somewhere.since then, the state has turned higbee's into a bird sanctuary and is off limits to all. until five years or so, you could walk the beach or surf fish along the beach. even that has been banned now. i also read that blackbeard was known to ambush ships in the delaware bay preying on the new york to philadelphia ship traffic. who knows, someday the new jersey citizens may force a change in their laws and some lucky person may find more treasure. i often wonder whatever happened to those coins and what they were worth and where they came from. this all happened almost forty years ago and have never heard of another find like that on the beach, but, if i had found something like that i would have kept it quiet too.
