specs on the F-5 and Omega 8000

Wanted to know if anyone knew what the differences were between the F-5 and the omega. Considering buying one or the other. Any input on these machines would really be appreciated especially if some one who owns both can compare them. Have a great day. Thank you all. Al

Mike Hillis did a VERY good comparison report on these two machines on this forum.----You can do a search for it & you will find it--a good read.--------Del

Here is what Dave Johnson one of the people responsible for designing it says.

they're both personal favorites when one doesn't need or want the utter max in gain capability. (read: LTD's) IMO based on personal experience with pretty much everything else out there in these price points, there is nothing as good. Having the 11" DD coil is pretty important so whichever you might decide on, figure on getting that coil also. You won't regret it and if you don't get it, you'll always wonder if you should have. The ergonomics, weight, and feel with the Omega wins over the F-5. The F-5 has a separate threshold control that can be important if you hunt much in am and have a wide range of soil conditions. The Omega came out about a year after the F-5, give or take, and there were subtle improvements incorporated in it. These probably won't show up in a spec sheet comparison, but they're discernible to the user of both. I prefer the Omega but the preference is not substantial and I'd be comfortable and confident with either. If you get one of the two and take the time to learn it well, I think you'll agree.

Thanks BuckeyeBrad, I thought as much about purchasing the 11" dd coil. I can't understand why the Omega would be 100.00 more than the F-5 being that they are about the same?

The nice thing is that FT is offering the Omega Pro package now and with that, you'll definitely save some bucks on the 11" DD.
