I found a spoon identical to this one posted by GaRebel. Mine has the handle broken off, so I can't find any markings. Anyone know anything about this spoon, what its made of, etc... Mine was found at the sight of a mid 1800's hotel.

Is there any discernible markings on it? Do you know what its made of??

...it's a reddish material on the inside. I think they may have called it bakelite. I'll see if I can dig it up. In the meantime, a pic of a handful of them from the link below. They seem to be a pretty common find.

Thanks for the pic and info Steve. You don't have to go and "re"dig it up. I was just kinda wondering a little about it. Since they seem common, I'll maybe dig a few more one day. I don't have many hours or finds with my Exp yet , hopefully that will change this spring .

...my wife got fed up and cleaned up my junk from around the house and chucked it all in a box. I think this is the one. She has no idea how valuable this stuff is.

...this isn't the one I was thinking of, but looks like the same pattern. I've also found a couple tablespoons and a number of just the flat handles. Since these spoons weren't silver and were in pretty rough shape, I didn't pay much attention to them at the time, but now you've got my curiousity up.

Wow, I see you don't throw much out. My wife says I have that disease too, Packratitis. I can't help it, anything that is 100+ years old, is awfully hard to throw away. Those spoons all have the same designs. I like that one you posted, it's different than any I've seen. Thanks for the feedback.

I found this spoon handle on a 200 year old farm in upstate ny. It looks to be the same pattern as yours. I think it is brass plated with silver.
