Spring and Wildlife

Just a reminder that spring is here, and so are various animals! I was out detecting yesterday in an old ghost town near Las Vegas (Nelson, NV) and as I was beeping, out of the corner of my eye happened to notice that the branch on the ground was actually a 3-4' long diamonback rattler! I swore softly and froze, and my son did the same. He had not seen it and would of stepped on it, since it was about 3' away. Well after it slithered away, we started breathing again.
Point is, you can get really involved in listening and concentrating on beeping, but try to give a little notice to the critters
Good luck to ya all and HH

Evidently you don't watch "Venom ER" on TV like I do. People lose limbs and die from Rattle Snake bites in the U.S. each year. I'll take my chances on "ticks", you can have your snakes

back in 1980, when some idiots convinced me to go looking for some treasure on someone's private property (gasp.....we trespassed!) without lights. I stepped on the snake about an inch behind his head, and he came unglued!
Wrapped around my leg, rattling like a drum roll. I stood still, and put all my weight on him, got my 12 inch buck hunting knife out, and cut his head off.
When I picked my foot up, the body struck my leg........pretty scary.
I still have his rattle, and a story that still gives me the jeebers......
Dennis who is still rattled!

Here in East Texas, lots of bottom land, Saturday saw a cottonmouth snake about three feet from where I was detecting, BIG, got bit by a non-venomous spider, and came home to find I had a tick on me! Winter here is the great time to hunt.. The critters are all gone! Except for the gators, they are pretty shy though, unless you have an open cut!
