Square Pulltabs Sound Like A Duck...A Good Thing To Know If You Like Gold Rings

Ever notice the sound of an intact square pull tab? It's a bit of a rough sound and sounds like the "quack" of a duck. And the VDI really likes to repeat 53. Now cut off a portion of the square pull tab or bend it, and the VDI numbers tend to bounce around to about 70 and 50, and it loses it's "QUACK".....now a gold ring shouldn't quack, and has a smoother sound, and doesn't bounce around too much on the VDI. I tend to dig all pulltabs, unless I am burned out. I can accurately guess a square pull tab.

Thought you might like to know this......especially if you are looking for gold rings. :bouncy:

John my AT does a double blip on pull tabs when I get over the target the long way and I get a scratch on foil most of the time, what fools me is the beaver tails, the old fashioned pulltab with the large hole and tail sticking out. By the way were the diamonds real in that NY necklace you found?

Here is a good reason not to use discrimination when looking for gold rings.

A random selectio of some of the gold rings I have found.

Disc set to reject squ pull tabs.

The rings on the left were rejected and those on the right were accepted

How do you set Iron Discrimination when ring hunting? Do you get a slight "Grunt" on any of these rings and pulltabs when Iron Disc is set at 35?

I was using a Sov and a CX II for the testing however the AT Pro with Iron Audio On and set to disc 35, if any of these rings read below 35 they will be rejected and there would not be an iron grunt.because they are not iron.therefore you might miss them. From 35 upwards they will give a normal tone and no grunt
