Star pin inside copper with view glass?

Found this at about 12" deep at a very old park today. The star is a pin and it was inside the copper/glass piece.

Looks like it could have been the top of a cane. From the wiki info, it could be from the mid 1800's. Nice find!

i found this on google images but not exact mach it is an eastern pin the glass could just be to protect it for show.

Ya it's a pin but just didn't know why it would be inside that copper piece. Maybe just fell that way.
