Still going to Virginia

DK

New member
Joan and I are still going to Virginia, the Lord willing. We are planning on leaving on Monday, the 6th of July and will be gone a week. Staying about 15 minutes from the beach, so I figure I can get up early and hit the beach before the crowd swarms in. I love history, so there are plenty of civil war sites to visit on the way, plus some Revolutionary War sites near Norfolk. Going to go by and visit the Navy base in Norfolk. Maybe we can get one of them good old trays of Navy Chow. Their food really was not all that bad. Joan has never seen the mountains or the ocean, so I hope she enjoys the trip. May go on a short ocean boat trip, but want to see if someone has upped my life insurance coverage first. As I said I plan on hitting the beach early with the detector and see if I can find some goodies.

Be safe, have fun and find those hidden goodies.....the nice ones! :) God Bless! Betty

she will love the mountains!!!! would be real cool if you could go through just as it is getting light outside. we were on our way to the outerbanks, fla and gatlinburg but i would love to take a trip and hit the civil war sites. look for gravediggermax while at virginia beach. i never met him but he seems like a good guy on the beach hunting forums. take lots of pics and have a great trip.

I was just out at Virginia Beach last week. I didn't take my detector, but did watch other folks operate theirs. I had an oceanfront room so sat out on the balcony a lot. One thing I noticed is that in the morning I saw as many a 6 guys out detecting at the same time. But in the evening, when folks were going home, I never saw a single detectorist. This has me quite puzzled, as it seems to me the best time to find lost goodies is before the beach sweepers come through...

In any event, I resolved to bring a detector next trip, and you can be sure I'll be out there in the evenings rather than the mornings!

Great places to hunt for CW stuff, and great museums! :)

Been in contact with some people who live in the area from the Beach Forum. Getting some great advice when to hunt. Going to try and hook up with Mike from Virginia Beach. He says he hunts there mostly in the evenings and at night. With all the hotel lights you can see alot, plus I have a head lamp to use. He says its too crowded during the day, but if you don't mind walking around the crowd its ok. Will probably go at night so Joan can see as much as she can during the day. Going to get to spend some time aboard a good old Navy ship while we are there. Hope they don't try and keep me on board, or throw me over.:wiggle: Anyway, plan on taking Joan up and down the board walk. She ain't none too happy about having to take one of the underwater tunnels from Hampton to Virginia Beach. It only 31/2 miles underwater. No big deal right? Submarines do it all the time. Going to give the Garretts a workout if I can. If we had time, I would like to do some relic hunting, but need to hook up with a local to know when and where and what sites are open. Plan on eating alot of fresh seafood, and possibly doing some ocean fishing. Please continue to pray for our safe journey and that God will give us chances to witness for Him on our trip. Will keep you updated.

DK ... You're going to Love Virginia! I have friends there (North of Richmond) that are more like family and, if it were possible, I'd move there in a heart beat! Have a great vacation.
