Still No Silver

I'm sure I haven't hit the right hole yet, but the silver is sure taking it's time to show up under my coil. I hunted one of the oldest parks in central Utah, which is right around the corner from where I live. I pulled the typical new stuff...until...I hit a deep 8"+ 12-14 that told me to come and get me. It was one of those targets that was just perfect. Solid, any direction was the same. I dug a nice plug as deep as my digger would go. I pulled the plug out and on the very bottom of the plug point, was a V nickel laying perfectly flat. At first I thought it was a small token, but soon found the "V" on the back and knew what I had. I going back today and look for that elusive silver. Now if I can just get a perfect 01-44..Woot...good hunting

That's a nice V you got there...........WTG.......the silver will come! hawkeye Jim.

Nice V! Congratulations!

That V is in great shape. Nice -- Randy

Sent you a PM.

I've never found a V nickle either, but I keep digging those nickle numbers,It will come someday.
Nice find.Theres bound to be silver at that spot somewhere, just stay after it.

I've seen you bounce around when your not finding anything or finding memorials not trying to be smart but you might as well be in vegas
giding the yards or parks will help cause you are going over everything and you will see your yield grow
please dont take this the wrong way thx

Congratulations on the "V". I'm betting silver is there. Keep on swinging...and you're machine will let you know.

I do grid when i hunt..just not the yards you take me to ...i keep falling in your old dig holes...lol...just kidding...I agree, cover every inch in a methodical way and you will recover more goodies..I will work on that next time. Thanks Eric

You know what...It's all about what is left in the ground as far as silver coins are concerned. I started back in 1972 with my 1st detector a Whites Coinmaster 4DB TR. and it would go max 5-7 " deep and at that time there were a lot of silver 1' to 3" deep and believe me I found tons of silver every time out as well as wheaties, indian heads buffalo nickels etc. When I started there were very few people detecting and today everyone and his brother has a detector and the old sites by now are cleaned out. I started detecting again after a 10 year layoff with a newly purchased Whites Eagle Spectrum and after going out to some good spots about 10 times I have found about 50 clad quarter and the same for clad dimes, and only about 5 wheaties and only 1 silver mercury dime. The only solution is to find places where no one has been. So what I'm saying is to be careful how much money you spend as the good stuff if it was there could be found with just a mediocre detector. I would be interested with any comments...agree or disagree.

I am right there with you. I have had my ETrac since February and have found a V Nickel and about half a dozen buffalos. More wheaties than I can count...a couple of silver rings but I STILL striking out on the silver. That being said I 100% satisfied with my ETrac. I know that the silver is there. My hunting parter who also uses an ETrac has found a bout 8 or so silvers so far this year. Its all just a matter of running the coil over em. Eventually that ellusive silver will show its pretty face for both of us!

Hey Eric,
SOme of the pennys you go over have a chance of being silver dimes. Of the 11 silver dimes Ive dug this year I was sure that 2 of them were pennys before I dug them from about 6-8 inches and more than half of them I was not certain of if they were silver or copper but just hoping they were silver. I recomend you dig any penny target over 4 inches...you will learn your depth level for the area you hunt where the depth starts to mean older coins. It can change from area to area. At one of my hunts I dig about any target over 5 inches as long as it gives a pinpoint size of small round object. I may only get a few half azzed numbers and a bad cursor bounce but if it pinpoints at that depth with sizing then I check it by taking off a few inches and re swing- a good part of those turn into pennys, tokens, or somthing decent.

Most important if DF takes you to a good area- frist, accidentally hit him in the nuts with your shovel and when he bends over to cry quickly set his inline probe to on - that out to slow him down.

Fun reading bout you guys down in central Utah.
