Stone walls

At a Siding

New member
Hello... I was just wondering if anyone has found anything interesting while detecting stone walls. I do run my detector over them from time to time, but have not found anything yet. Some years ago however, before I even owned a metal detector, I did find an interesting piece (an old wrought iron hammer) in a stone wall by sheer coincidence.

Just interested in what some of us may have found there... Happy holidays!

I found a "geo cache" a few years ago while searching around a stone wall that looked like a foundation for a building of some sort.
This was actually in the wall covered by surrounding rocks and my buddy had just searched the area, but didn't scan the wall.
It was in an aluminum box that looked beat up and old and I first thought I'd found a cache of coins!
Upon opening it, I found some trinkets, a note pad for logging in when you find this cache and one lone Presidential dollar coin.
I traded an item I found that was made of brass and looked like a cover for a telescope for the Dollar coin.
Haven't been back to see if the cap is still in the cache box.
It's worth checking stone walls and I usually do a scan of them when I find them.

Go into the geocaching.com site and log in your find there for credit..... It's free to sign up and is really a fun hobby to add to metal detecting. put in your zip code then profile then view on map and you will see the spot on the map and many more.... I've been doing geocaching for about seven years now

I am also a geo-cacher, and I think it is funny that fwcrawford found a geo cache without knowing it was there! It is a neat hobby, just need a GPS

I did stumble on the one I found and my buddy has found 3 others over the years while detecting... some of them are not that well hidden, but the one I found was really concealed.
I bet that is a fun hobby and probably great exercise too!!

Had to do some searching, but I found the post on this cache on the day I found it.
Check it out.. I have seen a few other ones found by others too!!

I am assuming that you mean stone foundation walls, I always give them a once over, unfortunately I have never found anything but nails. You never know, one of these days I may hit it lucky.

I have however found empty caches but not in walls. I got a signal from a piece of trash and then found a neatly crafted perfectly square box made of flat stones on all sides buried in the ground. Who knows what was in there before I got there.

There are many stone walls thru out the woods of New England. Being mainly a woods detectorist i often always detect the walls and around them. Have found quite a few older coins near the walls but never a cache, but oh well, there are still many more walls to detect! That glass is always half full! lol...Merry Christmas all and Happy Hunting! Emmett

I once found a tin about the size of the one in your photo. It was in a neighbors yard. It was heavy, and I thought I found a money cache... Of course, it was not - it was actually ashes of a (presumably) pet. You never know what you will find...

Thanks for the replies.
