Stopped at a spot this morning after a meeting and got a 1910 V nickle

The sidewalk was pretty trashy and the numbers were bouncing around a lot from the 40's to 50's but hitting enough between 50-53 so I dug it. It was down about 6" with an old marble. Had sensitivity max, ground balanced 84, and was using Pro Custom wiith iron audio switched off. Iron set at 31.

Rick, I hunt pretty much the same way for coins and jewelry. I do use iron audio if I suspect a bottle cap.
Amazing how that eliminates digging useless targets.

I would love to find a v-nickle. My earliest silver is a 1941 Merc. If I dug a v-nickle I would probably
have to excuse myself to the restroom to clean my drawers.

Nice going with the V. Pretty good shape?

Thanks, where do you live? I thought I had it bad in northern Michigan compared to other places. The V nickel will probably rete VG 8. I've found 2 buffalo's this year, a 1919 and 1925. Went out to an old school with an old baseball field this evening with friends. I found a 1919 wheat at 4" and right beside of it a 1902 IH at 8". I scratched the back though. Hate when that happens. The coins were in some heavy iron and IH gave weird flutty high tone, kind of like the Minelab Explorer. I've learned you can't let those signals go.

I do like the AT Pro and haven't had any problems starting out Pro mode. It reminds me a little of the Fisher Coin Strike I used to have only the AT Pro is smoother.

Great finds what kind of condition are V nickles when you find them in Michigan ? I have found two Buffalo's and two V's this year in Wisconsin, The Buffalo's were dark but readable, The V's were dark also, but hard to read. I would assume that they will all be dark, just wondering if anybody else has the same issue ? probably the soil has alot to do with it....HH.....C-Dog

That's funny that you mention the marble......twice in the past several days I too have pulled out a marble unexpectedly, one from the water + one in the ground. There must be millions of them out there!

To bad we can't detect the marbles . That was my first marble. I know I played a lot with marbles when I was kid. I think the nickels turn dark because they are not pure nickel. I have got some buffalos from the water and they come out with a nickel color and a copper hue toning. They look pretty neat.
