Why are they so bare? They look like pine trees except for the tops.Kelley (Texas)

I increased the saturation a bit for effect. I don't know why they're so bare....that's the way they've always been as long as I've been around here.....good question.

It's an area where they flooded a town or two for a reservoir. This is where I took some shots of the northern lights a few years ago....pretty dark at night but still a glow from nearby towns.
